Drivetrain Help me find this intercooler
Help me find this intercooler
I cannot locate the copy of New Mini magazine where StoopidGirl is featured. In the magazine there is an article about an intercooler company that has a hybrid system. the center is Air-2-Air and the end caps are Water-2-Air... does anyone recall the company (or have the magazine)?

It is a very good Intercooler. Some modification is necessary because the kit was designed for a right hand drive Mini.

I have been using the pace twin cooler for some time ,it is a very good system, however can be much improved, If you look at the radiators you will notice that the inlet and outlet for the water are the same ends of the rad ,(there is no internal baffle)they should be at top and bottom to fully utilise the rad area (I altered mine to top/bottom,on both rads) as there is only a third of each radiator effective.as shown in pic
Next I tried different combinations of flow ,coolest water to the hotside end,and vise versa, rads in series then in parallel.
After this I introduced a 3rd radiator and tried different combinations 2 to the hot end ,etc etc etc
The water tank also should have some relief in the cap(its a screw cap)in case the core were to be ruptured and pressurize the water system with boost pressure!! it could also be a bit larger capacity.
A higher flow pump works better than the supplied one ,and you need to put in place a restrictor after the cooler ,this slows the flow rate thru the cooler allowing greater heat transfer, then the flow is increased again thru the radiators to aid heat transfer out of the rads. I tried more pump combos ,but the single larger one works best.
I also increased the pipe diameters to add a tiny bit more volume of water
with these alterations I now have a seriously good cooling system. but it is costly
At one time the engine bay had more pipes than an oilfield!
You do also have to cut the front bar to get a 3rd rad in !!

this unit would cost $2,864 as of today if someone wanted to get one.

The last time I talked to Pace they gave me a price of 2K. Yes the kit will work on US cars. There would be some modifications needed but nothing a good shop can't take of. Or a crafty do-it yourselfer for that matter.
