A possible Intercooler solution?

A great deal of talk on NAM along with other websites based on R53 Mini Copper; happen to be based on the intercooler and how the efficiency could be improved. But due to the poor air flow to the stock IC it seems that the only real power gains would come from an air to water system such as the mini madness kit (WAIC), Which retails for $1549.00. While doing some research I came across NOS’s universal intercooler spray kit. NOS claims INTERCOOLER SPRAY BAR FEATURES: New snake design delivers 20% greater intercooler coverage area for improved cooling. Decreases intake air temperatures by 20º and allows you to safely run more boost for more power. Cut to length design for use with all intercoolers unlike competitive halo units. Kit includes 5LB NOS bottle & all necessary hardware for easy installation”

What i am getting at is if anyone has had this done to their cooper s?

Actually, under driving conditions the stock IC is very efficient. It's only real drawback is the heat soak that happens while sitting still.

While true for normal driving conditions, not so true under racing conditions. You'll find in the racing forums the problems with the stock IC and heat soak. I've found this myself in racing, cars that I can pass on the straights in the first 3 or 4 laps are now passing me in the later laps do to heat soak.

The MINI S is a good car to set qualifying times with. It's just during the race under WOT the temps build up in the IC and HP suffers. Randy from RSR Motorsports has been chasing this all Grand AM season. Tony Nuzzo installed a custom front mount IC in his GA Cars to correct this issue as well.

I've discussed this issue with Vesko Kozarov and also with Bob Scheer that also race in USTCC with myself and have gotten permission to install front mount IC because of the heat problem.

For most people the stock IC works just fine, but for those under WOT a lot and for extended periods we need something different.

I totally agree rp, but the OP didn't mention anything about racing. So I assumed he was talking about daily driving situations.

ScottinBend, I totally agree, we're on the same page. With the exception of all out racing or those who drive the twisties WOT the stock IC is just fine. IMO
