Don't worry about the hose...

it's the baffle at the back by the firewall that's getting you.

Matt

ps, the HAI will give you better response but no more power unless you do some work to get some more cold air to it.

Matt what HAI are you running?

I love the whine of the Alta just don't like the low throttle whistle.

Same as most...

K&N on the TB. I did some mods to the front radiator support to keep some of the hot air away....

Not too pretty, but keeps the hot air from the radiator away....

Matt

ps, if your curious about some data on the HAI, take a look at my gallery, here.

How does it sound? Any whistle at low throttle?

A bit.

the wistle is from air going over the edge of the throttle plate. It's not heard on the stock cars because of all that plumbing and the accustic ressonators that are on the tube from the airbox to the front of the car.

Getting rid of that isn't easy, but not having removed the rear panel when I did the HAI keeps the sound pretty close to stock. A bit louder, but none of that slurpy sucky sound that I've heard on cars with nothing between the passenger compartement and the TB. (Some AGS cars have this but good!)

I just put back in the rear panel (Cut a section of it) on my Alta CAI and the whistle is gone. The SC Whine is quieter(I love the SC whine) but I am happy with the new sound or lack of. The fit is tight with the rear panel but everything fit back in.

Putting the back panel may be a easy solution for those that like the alta without the whistle. The compromise is not having the full whine from the SC that I have a grown to love.

Ditto. I just put the OEM firewall back in, too (no cutting). "Shaves off" the super-high whine/whistle that was a bit too much for me. The supercharger whine is still there just a bit more "refined". Seems to kick in/crank up at 3000+ RPMs.

It didn't/ hasn't reduced the performance gain though. At least not as far as my butt dyno can tell.

DEFINITELY a solution for those who find the Alta (and others?) too whiny.

Just wait a few thousand miles until the Alta filter picks up some minute debris then the whistle will go away! When you clean your filter just pop in the rear plastic panel for a few thousand miles then remove.....and on and on. I personally like the whistle though. Keep enjoying your cooler air intakes!

My whistle never went away I have 10k miles on it. I think every car is a bit different but pleased with the car and this tweak.

I agree fully Jeffc. Every car is unique! That's what makes us MINI operators smile! Best of luck to you!

The DDM unit adds a nice level of whine at most speeds and really gets your attention when you jump on it! I like mine as a pleasant compromise between stock and what I've heard about the Alta.
