Got a question for you guys and gals.
I want to get the new "msfitoy" style whalen. But am unsure whether to go Delrin or metal. I want the weight of the metal one but the temperature properties of the Delrin. And how strong is Delrin? I've read up one some of it's properties but how prone is it to cracking and chipping etc? How muf a wieght difference is there between the aluminium and Delrin?

the new ones are aluminum, so a bit cooler than the stainless ones. I just got mine in the mail yesterday, and I love it. Not in the car yet, but still, it had a differen temp feel to it, and it came out of the mailbox that was roasting
.
I don't know about the weight differences at all, sorry.
I do know Doug is on a mini vacation until Monday, so he is not around to answer questions.

I really have come to believe that installing things on the mini are not hard in anyway. It is all a matter of time to me. I see every project as another fun thing to do.
The worst part to me when I am installing anything is the time and if you get a SNAFU. But, if you run into a FUBAR
, well you better stop and ask somebody.:impatient

Msfitoy turns 70!
Well, it was bound to happen...but she's now sporting new "black" gauge plates from Cockpit Specialties...
Warning: Although they do have plates for the NAV optioned dual gauge faces, they are designed for the 05 models and up...I found out several indicator symbols are not in their proper location or missing altogether but I perservered and corrected the problems to a degree (cruise is highbeam, highbeam is left indicator, oil is highbeam and the tach's lower symbol window is entirely missing)...I trimmed out my old plate and graphed it into the hole and left the the rest as is...I'm satisfied with the outcome and to be fair to CS, they did offer me a good discount for my troubles...
I know you'll ask so...the little LED in the middle under the gauges is the meth injection indicator...

Very nice Sid. Now, I cannot believe that MSFITOY turned 70 already. Your car looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor(with your special touch of corse). It just keeps getting better and better.

I'm always amazed at the number of MINIs running around there; can't hardly throw a rock in that city, without hitting a MINI!
I've noticed five or six, just in the parking lot of my son's apartment building.
Sid I have a question. How can you look at the road when you have all these wonderfully things begging for your attention in that Jet cockpit of yours?
Great job on the face plates, I would have been p...ed
How can they sale products that does not fit?

For any Mod another Mod(2) must be preformed upon the Mod proving that Mod + Mod(2) = Mod
Often a Mod(3) is required to Mod(2) the facilitate the modded Mod's proper operation

In all fairness to Cockpit Specialties, they were not aware of the change in NAV equipped gauges prior to 05 until I brought it to their attention, hence the discount...they patterned theirs after the 05 assuming that nothing had changed prior to then...
Speaking of which, if anyone has an 05+ NAV equipped gauge, I'd appreciate a closeup pic of your gauges so I can see what the differences are?
There are threads on the install by both Msfitoy & Gnatster that show the process each used.
or have a link? cause i never can find these things
thanks

BTW: "Way Brake Ducts" in the search bar helped in pulling these up. Searching sucks cause it can be very random at what it finds, but sometimes modifying what you type helps.

Search is a wonderful tool once you know how to use it.
Open the Advanced Search located under the Search drop down on the right side directly under the graphic.
Enter the term you seek into the Key Word(s) field. For this example we will use 'Brake Duct'. To keep the two words as one search term wrap in ' (a single quote) as shown in the example.
The User Name of the original posting member is known. That can be used to further narrow the search.
Enter the Users Name in the Search by User Name field. gnatster for this example.
Once all the terms have been entered click on the Search Now buttom found at the bottom of the search box.
Your search results should bring back exactly 1 thread. Coincidently this is one of the two threads Flamez mentioned. How convenient.
I am going to make a leap of faith here and figure the knowledge to find the other thread has now been learned.
Search can be your friend.

What Nathan said.
BTW Sid, I love the gauge faces too. I picked up one of Doug's black delrin shift ***** as well. Big improvment in feel.

Seriously, it does feel good doesn't it?
Money well spent IMO. Between the lighter feel and the different hand position I am sold.
