I think now I definately have something for you. I will be making the trip up to Cali soon, too hot here anyway.

P.s. it was never 4 car lengths.

David says other wise, but we can race again but no race gas for you. I know how you are a 107octane addict.

Nice mod but doubtful it will increase performance much at all. That thing is just a muffler to quiet down the engine noise. If you "feel" anything, its probably the enhanced engine sounds making it sound like its working harder / feeling sportier.

I certainly wouldn't pay $135 for it. It literally is a $5-20 mod you can do at home if the bracket isn't structural.

Turbo cars LOVE cool air. Ambient temps make a huge difference. Any of the turbo cars I've owned over the last 20 years feel quicker at night or in colder weather.

I foresee that an intercooler kit would replace that pipe altogether.

the bushings tighted up the engine mount and provide a more direct and responsive feel through the steering wheel and at hard throttling.

do the bushings make the engine noise inside the cabin any louder? Do your feel the engine vibration through the seats more? This is one I may be interested in but not at the expense of too much noise/vibration.

Even though I don't have this mod, yet, I'd say there's NO chance of a CEL because many of us have done "flexpipe back" exhaust systems and that didn't throw any codes, so something like the muffler delete shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to have this mod done by the place who did my exhaust system...sooner or later

I think he means he will have the muffler shop make one for him because they can flair the ends. All the muffler delete is a 8" piece of pipe. Even though I paid $130 for it, it can easily be made for $10

Since the original part is plastic do you think and 8" length of black 2" PVC pipe would also work ?

PVC is easier for most people to work with.

anyone think there could be problems of heat radiating from a metal pipe to the surrounding parts of the engine if you took the home made approach? i mean $135 is alot for a piece of pipe with a sticker on it.

peter314 - That was one of my concerns when I built mine. I don't know the gauge of galvenized pipe that I use, but it was about 1.5mm thick I would think. So after installing it and a full night of some great hard driving, I would pull over to check things out. The tube would get hot, but not hot enough to burn your hand. When I changed my oil 2 weeks ago, I checked everything and I didnt notice anything at all. Even the cheap quality black paint, was fine.
So with all that said, put one on and enjoy!

why can't you just use an 8" piece of silicon tubing? is the stiff pipe in the center neessary?

You could especially since ALTA's tubes are all silicone. I'd rather get those to replace my muffler delete because they look better for a start.

i mean you don't even need silicon...you could just go to autozone and get a length of rubber hose of the right diameter and alawys, if its necessary use a large hose clamp and make your own bracket piece thing....

mike: Just got the install done last night. They go on easy, but the OEM clamp on the T/B is kind of a PITA. I will post photos etc, ASAP! Also, got the intake on too!

I have followup questions regarding the MiniMadness silencer and the Alta boost tubes.

Effective HP probably is close to nothing... we should all agree on that. Intake sound and maybe a little faster throttle response.

So with that said, isnt the Mini Madness unit then probably the better route (given you arent building your own)? The only other question is, is the Mini Madness a metal pipe or some composite (plastic, metal, rubber). If it is all metal, I would think it would absorb too much heat and therefore possibly the Alta tubes are a better choice?

i believe the MM kit is metal, although they claim cooler IC temps. The Alta tubes are silicone. the Alta (for those interested) is a more flashy part, and is meant to be

I made mine from galvenized steel, and I had a concern about the heat. So I took my MINI for a KILLER run, reving big time etc... An hour later, pulled into a parking lot, and touched the pipe. It was hot, but not melting hot. I have had it on for many months now, and it still looks the same as day one.

So don't worry about the heat.

MINI Madness Intercooler Muffler Delete Pipe

I just installed it on my '09 JCW that has 30k miles. My first impression is that the engine does sound better. However the throttle response is now different. It seems as though there is less low end torque, and that the engine revs more freely above 5k on the tac. It actually makes the engine rev more like my '03 MCS did.

It feels like there is a little more turbo lag or maybe less boost at lower RPMs. When in sport mode, the car does not seem as jumpy off the line. Has anyone else with this mod experieinced similar performance?

I kept the muffler and am considering putting it back on. I'll make that decision after a long road trip and see how it affected the mileage.

Repsonses are welcomed.
