compressing rear wheel caliper piston?

All right, whats the trick? Did the front brakes no prob. The rear caliper piston does not want to go in? Am I missing something? is there a tool? or do they turn in? The piston does not appear to be frozen, just does not go in.

03 Cooper S, not JCW

Thanks

There are several threads on this topic in the wheels/tires/brakes forum. Some of have had pretty good luck with a large C clamp (as PARTSMAN said, it needs to spin while compressing). Harbor Freight has or at least had a cool 10 buck compression kit, and it worked wonderfully for me.

The search function works well.

I use a C-clamp, it works well, as long as the screw and the little thing on the end spin together.

If you have an Autozone, Advance Auto or similar parts store in your area, they usually have the tool you need as a loaner. Much better than buying one you'll only use so often, and the price is right. Free!!

If you have a HF near you, I'd recommend the 10 bucks, if still available. I've used mine 5 or so times in the last 2 years, and on all of our cars. Free is great of course too! I'd rather have something that I can use whenever I want, and not hassle with driving back-and-forth somewhere (lost time), and with what gas costs now, it might not be as all that "free" in the end...

Just go to your local HF and tell them you saw it on sale last week and they will most likely sell it to you for the $19.99 price.

You can also push it in while turning clockwise with a set of needle nose pliers.
Put the tips of the pliers into the two recesses, then push while turning.

Yep thats the way I started them moving then used the C clamp.

Bingo, the HF brake kit was just on sale with an email coupon for $15.99!
Located a new larger HF store, went right down and got one.
