Would the OEM tensioner destroy the harmonic balancer if the belt broke? I have the stock balancer and a 15% s/c pulley. I am interested in a replacement tensioner because one of the pulleys on it has developed a noise after I had a small piece of gravel in the track of the a/c compresser that began to eat the belt. Belt flakes got everywhere, and wrecked it guess.

It's been known to damage the OEM crank pulley when it breaks yes
The GTT have better quality than the OEM? Is a good change?
Best Regards
Yes, the GTT is a much higher quality product than the OEM both in material and craftsmanship. The question becomes is it worth the cost? That is a tough call. If you have a failing bearing on the original and need to replace it, OEM will require you to replace the whole tensioning mechanism, not just the pulley. So do you spend the money on a complete mechanism or just a pulley? I say if you have a failing bearing that is a good indication that maybe you should go for just the pulley. I replaced both my tensioner and idler pullies with the GTT tuning products as well as installed the tensioner limit stop. I did the replacement as a preventive maintenance measure while I was replacing my crank pulley. I have been VERY pleased with the products and the limit stop has saved me from having a tensioner crash once already when my drive belt failed. Hope that helps.
