I have been thinking of getting a lightend crank pulley but already have a fidanza flywheel. So am i already getting the same responce as i would say with a crank pulley without the flywheel.Or is it worth doing both and would this give me an even quicker responce on pickup,or is would that be overkill .
I will be using a 15% pulley by the way.

What year is your car? The 2005-on cars already have significantly-lighter crank pulleys compared to the earlier years, so there's less to be gained by going with a lighter one.

Since you've already installed a lighter flywheel, If you have a 2005 or later, I'd say you're probably already at the point of diminishing returns.

I'm guessing you are having some engine rebuild soon, judging by your recently raised topics? The GTT lightened crank pulley is no doubt a good item, but personally I would be concerned running an undampened crank on any FI car as the vibration will be transmitted to other areas. Maybe if you had the crank balanced, new pistons and all that going on then perhaps consider it, but again the lighter the crank area becomes the more it will transmit vibration anyway. You may want to check on the price of the later BMW pulley - I don't have the paperwork with me but I have a feeling when mine was changed the part cost was £150-200??? Not massively more than the GTT, but as I posted previously, I couldn't tell the difference between that and the early one 'through the pedal'.
With all that said though many people do run these mods with no problem, but have these done over 20k of regular day-to-day driving yet?
If it was my money I would put it towards a good head considering your present mods (and the fact you have a light flywheel)

Thanks buddy.Im inclined to agree.Ihave spoken to a well respected engine builder in the states and he recons to stay away from the ligten pulley. And your correct im just in the process of collecting the final parts for my replacement engine install.I unfortunatly had a melted piston, and my big valve head was cracked in 4 places ,then i find my clutch is worn ,my flywheel friction plate could do with being renewed,my charger is shot, the list goes on and on.So this time with my complete late 04 engine with 10k on it and a new charger im doing things with a view to the motor lasting. The previous owner just stuck to much on and didnt realy look after the engine.
Going back to the oem pulley ,if i can get a used one cheap enough then i will but im not spending £150 .I think a mate might have one from his GP.

While on the subject of crank pulley. I recently had a member here sugest me to go with the 2005 stock crank pulley since it was the lighter design than the one I have in my 2002 Mini. So I called a shop and asked them to look in to the item and they came back saying that the part is exactly the same as mine with even the same part #, so they didn't see the use of changing it.

Now, my question is, did they not know that the 05 crank pully would be lighter and have missed it completely just by looking at the part # and instead having to compare the weight or it's lightness?

If the 05 pully is in fact lighter can someone confirm this? And is it worth changing my 02 pulley to an 05?

Thank you

This HAS been confirmed many times. If you want to hear it for yourself, you could call/e-mail one of the custom MINI shop such as Helix, M7, MINI Madness, etc.

Perhaps since the newer pulley works on all model years of the R56, MINI just superseded the old one with the new one, and that's why the part number is the same?

Yep the old part is superseded and no longer avaiable, deleted. I didn't realise the part number is the same, I would have thought entering the old no. in the parts system would just take you to the new part.

so is it worth the cost of labor and part to change to the 05 crank pulley? If so, how big of a difference is it as far as performance?

I could not perceive any difference at all. Maybe it makes like .5% improvement (ie undetectable by the butt dyno).
