I'm in the Rocky Mountain region... we're done for the year. But, NASA is a great way to get on track.

There is a very active group in Dallas and Houston. The Dallas area, in particular, has a great track community.

Come on over and visit us: www.metroplexmini.org

There are several good companies in the area that run Driver Education events (also known as DEs). You get your car out on the track, at speed, with an instructor in the car... It's a safe, controlled environment to get your speed fix and learn a lot about the capabilities of your car.

My personal favorite is www.thedriversedge.net

Harris Hill Road is right around the corner for you. Its a great track, but its members only. They do have an occasional HPDE event there that will allow just about anyone to run.

Here is some video from Harris Hill Road from a couple of weeks ago when I was at the track. This is in my Lotus Exige, I have not taken the mini yet, but I plan to soon.

Just an FYI... and maybe you tracksters know this already, but....

Most auto insurance policies have exclusions for accidents that occur while on a track.

So, track all you want. Just don't have a wreck unless you have a nice bank account.

HPDE Insurance for track days: http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/Default.aspx?cID=38

It runs $150-200 per weekend, but that's the price to play...

That sounds about right, considering the degree of risk.

Nice video, great job. Also, I think that 911 had his parking brake on or something, you took him without effort.

I think the 911 GT3 had just came on track and was on his warm up lap. Not 100% sure about that, but he was definitely going slow for some reason.

The Hill Country Region PCA is haveing a HPDE on the 31st. They are usually open to others if they don't have enough entrants already.

H2R events:

The Cap of TX Z and 7 club's event on the 17th is filled up.
The PCA event on the 31st is filled up.
The S2KCA event the first weekend of April hasn't opened yet. But I'll try to get a few people from here on there.

I'll also be hosting an intro to the track happy hour on Jan 14th at Waterloo on Burnet at 7:30pm if anyone wants to come by. This is primarily for people attending the event on the 17th, but it is also a chance for others to get answers to questions they didn't know they had about tracking their car.

I did finally take the MCS out on track last Saturday. It held together just fine, but those runflats... I cannot wait to get a second set of wheels with real tires.

Granted it maybe a little far for you, but Hallett in Oklahoma http://www.hallettracing.net/ is very reasonable at $95 per day. They call it High Speed Touring. You get five sessions though out the day of about 7 to eight laps per session. It is a technically challenging track but also a very safe track with lots of grassy areas if you blow out a turn. The first time there you will be required to take a driver's education class (extra $30). They have insructors that will ride with you if you ask them. They also require an annual membership of $35.
