updated pics of the garage (II)

I finally had my painter come by to paint the garage. Let me know what you think. Note that the I had the light fixtures painted as well as the exposed plumbing, the door, garage door tracks, garage door motors and AC compressor hose. The first pic is the before pic and if you wanna see more, look at the first post here

WOW
I am lucky when I can sweep the floor and not have the kids track mud and crap in for a day.

Thanks Mark. Some people are saying they don't like the red on the pipes and stuff, but if you were to see the pipes in person (painted the same as the wall) you'd see that they don't look that great. So instead of trying to hide them I figured I'd spruce 'em up a bit. Kind of how they are in a parking garage.

Your garage is truly awesome! I love the red pipes/trim. You can tell that you live in a warm climate. Most garages in northeast Ohio have leaves swirling around the salt drippings. I also love your choice of cars.

Yeah definitely. That's why I had that AC installed when I remodeled the house. The garage faces west, so even with insulated garage doors it still would get hot in there once the sun starts beating down on it.

"some people"? you referring to KENCHAN?! jk.

you tried the default route (paint pipes to match wall) but you didnt'
like it... sounds like you did the best of what's available and i think that's
a great plan. the garage looks great, dont get me wrong!

I think Gusmiami should consider being a garage consultant. This is a very nice Man Cave. It also helps to have two great toys parked inside it! Don't tell me the front loaders are just for washing the car's micro-fibres? That will kill me-- most certainly

Yeah, I was the other naysayer. I think I made it clear in my post on the "other" thread on the subject that it's hard to take away from the overall appearance of that garage, even with the slightly "standing out" (as opposed to outstanding) conduit and plumbing.

Overall rating of the garage on a scale of 1-10: 8

Still got a ways to go to catch up with The Man Cave. Of course, you don't have 10 kajillion sf to work with like Manzilla does.

CR&PW was also nayer nayering about my unfinished garage walls.
nayernayer, appearance isn't everything in a garage. organization,
functionality, and appearance in that order.

Hey now, just because I asked WHY you didn't finish the walls, doesn't mean I didn't understand your answer !

I like certain things about YOUR garage, kenchan. I like certain things about your garage, too, Gus. I like certain things about my own garage... but there's things I don't like (like the bare concrete floor).

I gave Gus a score of 8... that's pretty damn good ! You, kenchan, your garage gets a 7.999999999999999999999999999999. Sorry, gotta finish those walls to get an 8.

The secret behind good interior design, take a negative and make it a positive.
I think the red is stunning and is just the thing needed to make your space truly outstanding!!

that aint fair to gus. if i get a 7.9, he deserves a 9 or higher.
i know my garage isn't the prettiest, but thats fine with me. the prettier
i make it the less i want to get it dirty, the less functional it becomes.

you've proobably seen those pretty kitchens some folks have? how many
of them are actually used for cooking? very little, as i found out. they
spurce up the kitchen in appearance but not very functional for a chef....
worse case, the people living there can't even cook! (macn'cheeze
don't count! )

in those terms, i think smokey's garage gets high points cause his garage
is an actual workshop. wanna work on a car? go to smokey's, kinda.

That was my point from the beginning. The plumbing looked odd just painted over. Imagine what someone like Bruce Willis would look like if he wore a rug on his head.......he would look rediculous!!! Instead, he shows off a bald head. Those pipes WERE the bald-*** head of my garage!!!

I definitely understand when Kenchan says that a neater space is harder to work in, but for me it's the other way around. The way I have things set-up makes it easier. Take for example the detailing cart (see pic below). When it's time to wash a car, I simply roll it to the garage door opening and I have everything accessible to me. I have the metal waste can from Griot's which I use to throw in the dirty towels, etc. In other words, everything is very accessible. I think the problem most people have in a garage is that they have a lot of things they don't use IN the garage. Luckily I have a shed and use that for storage and don't have random crap lying around. I HIGHLY recommend that to anyone that wants a neat garage.
Everything I hated about my old garage I took care of in this one. Take the vacuum for example. I used to hate to have to go inside and get the vacuum cleaner and lug it into the garage, so I made sure to have one mounted on the wall in the garage. Another thing I REALLY can't stand to do is go to a gas station to put air in the tires. Every gas station now seems to want to charge for it and since I never have change on me....it sucks!!! Hence, the air compressor with a retractible hose and a good Inflator with built in pressure guage. (that compressor won't be there long. I'm waiting to find one of these to replace it)
As you can see from the pictures, light is not a problem in my garage. Those weren't there...I had them installed because since I usually wash my car at night, I simply roll it in to dry it in there. It's like daytime in there AND air-conditioned (I used to sweat my *** off in my old garage). Again, all these things makes you want to actually BE in the garage. A cluttered garage just doesn't work for me.

gus, the negativity is endless with you. jk jk

i wasn't referring to your garage! i was referring to garages that ive
seen in general. you have yours spaced out nice and functional. open
space is a great thing. some people have pretty garages that you can't
really do anything in unless you take one car out. those are not the kind of
garages i can work in with my 2 cars in there that i do most of my work
on INSIDE the garage. especially in the winter time i dont want to
be taking BOTH cars out just to work on one of my cars parked out on
the driveway.

Don't worry buddy, I didn't take offense to it. Point was....different strokes for different folks. Some people would suffocate in my garage. They would want everything out where they can see it.
