What's This Stuff??

I got an email from Autopia the other day about a new product called Polycharger

What is this stuff? It sounds really good & I am thinking I am going to try it mixed with my Klasse on my next big detail in March. I have read that Klasse changed their formula & that it was no longer as long lasting as it used to be. I am wondering if this additive will get it back like it used to be. Thoughts?

I mean anything with the word "booster" in it has to be good right

Come on guys, can't a fella get a break for a non-caffeinated spew every once in a while?
But since you brought it up ...
What's with America these days. Can't somebody come up with an original product? Can't we make something that is just good enough on its own - doesn't need another product to make it better? Back when I was a kid nothing worked better when something else was added, everything was crap with or without adding anything else and we were thankful for it. It didn't work because it was crap and there was no hope of making it work any better by adding some other crap to it. Now days everything has to be a booster or an improver or a multiplier - this will boost that or this will improve that, use this and you get 2 times the other. Why can't something just work as desired for the price you pay without some other smuck wanting to glob on to the success of someone else - not selling his own crap, but making someone else's crap better. Is this really what we have come to? A nation that only betters other products, not makes good stuff to start out with. Fine, who needs originality.
OK now I need a nap.

As I can recall from the other ran- excuse me thread was that when you were a kid, you threw dirt at your car...

Enough said.

If the guys at Klasse dummied down their formula MBE this is somebody trying to perk it back up. The guys at Autopia are pretty trustworthy

Well, I wouldn't say that Klasse "dummied down" their formula, but rather was forced to make a change due to the extremely restrictive VOC laws in California! If it weren't for these laws, Klasse would be the same as its always been and wouldn't have lost any durability.

Just had to clarify that, even though I know it really has nothing to do with the real core of this topic.

Yeah I had read that from your writings. I was just trying to sum what you said up in one word (just did it badly )

What I am wondering is if this booster might bring Klasse back to its former glory.

I know, I know... you were just summarizing. I'm just so sad about the change that I like to be sure to blame California whenever I can.

Yeah, I wonder too. Thanks for posting about this. We're going to research it and check it out.

Heather, Is there a way to find out from the container if I have the "dummied" down version of Klasse? Is there a code (date, etc..) of some sort printed to figure it out.

I have both AIO and SG and it was only purchased summer of '06.

Thanks!

I found out that Nick's already been talking with one of the owners of Autopia about what this Polycharger is all about. He's always way ahead of me in keeping up with new stuff!

It sounds like it's very similar to Zaino's Z-FX (which, by the way, can be used with non-Zaino waxes too).

One thing to keep in mind is that once you mix the Polycharger with the wax, you must use the mixture right away (within 48 hours). Of course, the key is that you only mix what you'll use right away. Still, something to keep in mind. Alot of people who love Zaino's results don't like the process of having to mix with Z-FX every time.

There are 2 kinds of Polycharger. *Be sure to get the H2O version if you want to use it with Klasse. Klasse is an acrylic-based wax and is therefore compatible with the H2O version only. Most other synthetic waxes will require the other kind: CH2.

My initial reaction is that it seems like a lot to spend and some hassle just to boost durability a bit, since synthetics are getting so durable these days anyway. Klasse AIO is a big exception though, in that it's a great and somewhat unique product with limited durability. Of course, this very Klasse fact is the reason bamatt started this thread to begin with!

Finally though, for a *real* opinion of it, of course I'll have to try it first. I'm sure we'll test it at some point but I'm not sure when.

So Heather, I got some left over Z-FX from my Zaino days, are you saying I can add it to Epic and make the Epic last even longer?

According to what Sal has told Nick, yes. However, we've never actually tried it. Feel free to give it a go!

I don't believe everything I read but I do tend to believe that the products offered at both Autopia & Detailer's Paradise tend to be more of a more trustworthy quality than the products I would find at most places

I thought that the ZFX is only to make the zaino sealants, Z2 and Z5, dry faster....it adds to the durabilty also?....does that mean if it says to add 4 drops to an ounce of Z2, then 5 or 6 drops would be better?

The Z-FX is to make the polymers cross-link quicker and more efficiently (more links). By doing so the Z-FX will make more of the Z-2 or Z-5 reactive and cross-link. Does that actually mean it is more durable? Dunno, probably since you are getting more of the polymers to stick around after the buff. Will adding more work better? Probably, but there is also probably a diminishing return and in fact it could actually start inhibiting the cross-linking if enough were added. Kind of like the catalyst in epoxy - use too much and the epoxy will never cure. Besides at $20/bottle though I think I would just use the recommended amount.

Unfortunately, there is no way whatsoever to find out which version of Klasse AIO you have other than to test it. Old and new are packaged in identical packaging. From my understanding, Klasse didn't think the change had any effect on the final results (I guess they didn't do durability testing?!? ), so they didn't note it on the packaging. In fact, for a short while, long ago now, they denied any change at all.

The only way to know is to see how long it lasts. If it lasts somewhere between 2 and 5 weeks, it's the new stuff. It it lasts somewhere between 2 and 3 months, then it's the old stuff.

It's likely a bottle purchased in summer of '06 is the new formula, unless the place you bought it from happended to have held an exorbitant amount of AIO inventory and still had the old formula left. If I remember correctly, we were out of the old formula sometime in the summer of '05.

By the way, I should note for anyone reading this that the above pertains only to Klasse All-In-One (AIO) and not Klasse Sealant Glaze. The Sealant Glaze has not changed.

Heather, Thanks for sharing that information on Klasse twins. I kinda had an idea that my AIO is the reformulated version. I really don't see it lasting 2 to 3 months.
