I just wanted to let everyone know that Detailers Paradise will be closed for inventory all of next week.
The dates of our closure will be from Sunday, January 28th through Monday, February 5th.
What does this mean for you?
- Online orders will still be accepted as normal, except that orders placed during the closure will not ship until we re-open on Tuesday, February 6th.
- I won't be available for questions during this time.
- DP customer service will not be available during this time.
- Our retail store in Denver will be closed during this time.
- All orders placed during the closure will receive a free bottle of Prima Mystique Auto Wash! The big bonus: you don't have to do anything to get it! In other words, no coupon code to remember and you do not place it in your cart. I'm keeping it easy for you this time.
We will simply be placing a bottle of Mystique in every package we ship out for orders placed during the closure. This freebie is not limited to NAMers. It will happen to everyone who orders during this time. So, feel free to spread the news if you'd like! - Of course, we'll also give a free bottle of Mystique to our local NAM customers too. Just mention this offer when you come in, anytime during the week of February 6th (through Saturday) and you'll get a free Mystique too.
Questions? I'll be available on and off all day today, as well as most of tomorrow (Saturday). Fire away!
Thanks again!

i've been thinking of getting some Mystique, but have hesitated since I'm not able to wash much during the winter now... this gives me incentive to find something else i want/need at DP to get the mystique. perhaps some more waffle weaves.
thanks heather and nick!
I'm jones'n already man.
(marks on calendar: Feb 6th - go get fix!)
Have fun with your "counting".
Did I mention I'm pretty good with computers should you need a little help with your crashed PC. I can help you reduce your inventory too if that would help.

Not quite, but I will be trying some Epic, Hydro, Mystique
Got one skinny applicator thingy for the Epic and with the Fluffy I figure it is a good place to start...

My preference would be Slick instead of Hydro. I like them both, but using Slick on the Epic really equals the shine of Hydro on Epic and you need less Slick and it is less expensive. I use Epic on my exterior glass and chrome as well and then clean them with Slick a couple of times (or more) each week.
So it is your choice. I don't think they are mutually exclusive and I do like the shine that Hydro puts down, but I think that Slick is more economical and does the QD thing very well.
Just my $0.02 - Heather can correct me (and probably slap me around some).

Ah well, order was placed already so it is moot - the Hydro is only a couple bucks more so I guess I didn't make a grave error
I don't see QDing too much, seems like the car gets particulates and dirt on it immediately and I wouldn't feel good about spritzing/wiping that surface.
(sorry this has gotten so OT Heather)

it didn't have the lift capabilities of Slick so you should still
use Slick as your QD.
^^ kenchan... just buy that clarity!

it makes me laugh to see you holding out on clarity when i hear you buying lots of other things! <jk>

well, my .02 on the Hydro/Slick debate... I bought some more Slick to get my Monster Fluffy... because I love the stuff. It's still a little scary to use it (for me) when the car is slightly dirty, but it is "slick" and with the Monster Fluffy it seems to work well AND the shine is INCREDIBLE.
however, I just used Hydro for the first time today.... I had a burst of energy late today and temps were in the high 40s and the car was filthy from lots of rain, etc. So I washed it with Meguiar's NXT wash and had started to dry it with the Waffle Weave towels when i remembered I hadn't tried my Hrdro yet. So while the car was still wet... I sprayed it on... goes on similar to Slick, but a little heavier... not as runny and wiped it off with the Monster Fluffy. I NEVER like to wipe dry my car... I usually lay the waffle weave on it and let it soak up, but I felt comfortable doing it with the Hydro. The stuff is great. Gives a nice finish to a clean car and it feels nice to dry the car as you're doing it.
Of course, it was getting dark by the time I finished, so couldn't see the real results, but I could tell it was nice, and as with all of the other Prima products, application was great.

^^ I will... hopefully it won't get frosty tonight and leave a dirty residue.
I think I'll drive up to the local Sonic Drive-In and check it out... They have the ultra bright lights. I did that once when I finished waxing late to see if I had missed buffing any Epic off

oh, what I would do for a garage these days!

well, you do notice that these garage and car parts ivebeen buying has nothing to do with detailing.
off season = no purchase. why stockup if i can't even use it?
i was out there yesterday in 22F windchill 10F or below and
cleaning off bird crap x5 off my car using hot water and
paper towels. freezes up in about 30-35sec. the hell am i
going to do with clarity or any detailing products in that kind
of temps?
when the time comes i will.
is it true that day light savings isstarting early this year?
which is a good thing cause thatmeans i can maybe wash my cars after work.
I really like using hydro to dry, but have found that with a real wet MF its hard to work with (could this be due to 40 degree temps???). I recently got most of the water off of the car with a DP dual pyle and then went back with another dual pyle and hydro to really dry the car off. Even then, I noticed there was a littl tiny bit of hydro left after a little bit of work, so i followed with slick, and the results were unbelievable. The slick left a truly noticable "slick" layer on top of the hydro, and the car looked unbelievable. Needless to say, for a 30 car wash, the owner was incredibly happy (and the interior looked flawless
)
both products are awesome, especially together.

mcd- yah, in cold temps things change dramatically so i think the effects
you were seeing is "normal." when i last tried hydro, i did a quick paint-blade
to remove most of the water, sprayed Hydro in 15x15 sections and used my
drying MF towel. worked very well and it was (i think) about 40F. for
nook&c you know i use a leaf blower..so that helps dry the car a lot.
haven't washed my commuters for about a month now....
oh well,
nice white finish.

The Slick vs Hydro as a QD debate is mostly a matter of preference. They are functionally different in a few ways, but most of their differences really come down to what you like and how you like to do it.
Slick:
- Has substantial cleaning ability (ie, for fresh water spots, etc)
- Contains a short-term polymer (~1-2 weeks of durability)
- Gives alot of shine, tons of slickness and a little glossiness
- Is lighter in consistency
- Can be applied dry as a traditional QD with a plush microfiber
- Has mild cleaning ability
- Contains a true spray wax polymer (~1-2 months of durability)
- Gives alot of shine, slickness, tons of glossiness/wetness, and some depth
- Is thicker in consistency
- Can be applied dry as a traditional QD with a plush microfiber or applied to a wet, freshly washed surface as more of a spray wax then buffed/dried with a waffle weave drying towel as you dry the car.
Ya know, you guys are funny. I start a thread and walk away for 10 minues (ok, maybe longer than that!) and there are suddenly 22 posts!
It seems that on the days I'm on NAM non-stop there is barely any dialogue! I can't keep up with you guys!
-Heather
Ha! It wouldn't be NAM Detailing 101 if a thread didn't go off topic at least a little bit!
No problem, really. That's all part of the fun and the natural course of discussion! I'm used to it by now.
