The Ding King - anyone ever used this?
Okay it had to happen - I've got my first ding. It's a little larger than a silver dollar and is right over the latch of the rear hatch. It's very minorbut it's annoying the heck out of me everytime I see it.
So I came across this solution: The Ding King
Typically I stay away from the "As Seen on TV" products like the plague - but this actually looks like it would do the job. Does anyone have any experience with it? Or is there something else out there that works better? I'd rather not pay someone $50 for something I could concievable do myself.
Thanks...

Ok, this is probably going to be less than helpful, but here we go anyway:
DISCLAIMER: I know less than nothing about autobody repair. Get it? Nada. Not a damm thing... but I happen to have an uncle who owns a body shop
That would be really handy--if he ever did anything for free or a discount or ever even had good news
That said.... stupid people dented my door and, although I don't know them, I hate them with a passion that has caused nightmares. I asked about the Ding King. He told me to go right on ahead if I wanted to waste my money. Weather he knows something I don't, or just wants to preserve business at his shop, he told me the only way to manage a quality dent repair is to hammer and do a repaint. With a ding on the door--assuming it's squarely in the center and doesn't require blending onto the quarterpanels--he quoted me around $300. Blah.
If anyone knows anything good about the Ding King, I would suggest you completely override my uncles advice and go for it. And also tell me about it...

Having worked in a bodyshop years ago and having seen the ding king advertised on TV. I would say do not waste your money. If the dent has even a trace of a crease in it, it will still be there after trying to fix it. If the dent is simply a press in type, it has a chance to work but, I doubt it will. For dings, I would take it to a body shop that also can do paintless dent removal. That way you are covering the bases and having it done right.
I have the DENT KING, and have used it on Bronco, I had some pretty big dents and it did help. The problem is that on some the dents it pulled the paint right off the body. I wanted to use my Bronco as I am restoring it anyway, ansd planned on reapinting it. I would not use it on a car that I did not want to get repainted.
Paintless Dent Removal:
We have used this process for 10 years in our shop. If you get a good dent tech, it will save you a lot of money. Paintless Dent Removal is best used for dings and dents that are smaller than a golf ball, not on a bodyline and the paint is not broken. Steel rods are used to massage the metal back to its original form. When done by a good dent person, the dent will completely disappear in most cases.

I have the DING KING. Bought it off Ebay for cheap. I have about 70-80 dings (!)
one my MCS from the hail storm last month. I HAVE made a claim with my insurance company and am going for an estimate. The best guess right now is $4-5k in damage!
Somehow, since the dings are much smaller than a golf ball, it really doesn't look too bad on my dark silver S. It does look bad on the right side of my white roof. If you're at the right angle, my god, there might be 70 tiny dings on that side alone!
Anyway, I tried the DING KING BEFORE I made the claim to insurance (b/c I didn't want to have to make a claim) and I've now learned a lot of lessons to make it look better. They recommend only use on OEM paint. If it's ever been repainted don't use it. I tried it on one of the doors and the roof on one side. Didn't do much with the roof but at least the glue didn't get stuck. On the paint, it left the dried glue that was nearly impossible to get off. I learned I can use GOof off to remove the glue then follow it up with a car wash and wax. The paint looks fine.
As far as the dings, again, they are tiny but there's tons of them. I made some progress on the dark silver dings. Some came out and others got smaller. Unfortunately, I didn't use the kit the right way. I didn't think I had an outside outlet so I had to put the glue on from the hot glue gun and run outside and attached the glued thingy to the MINI. By then the glue had cooled and it wasn't as sticky. I've since learned that I had an outlet in my garage (I rent so I really didn't know) so I will try again when I have a light work day. I'll spend all day trying this and I really think I might be able to make a "dent"
in the number of dings that I have.
My wife has two bigger dings/dents on her CR-V and I'm going to give them a shot too since hers is a leased car.
I'll keep everyone updated....

I second this recommendation - if the paint isn't scratched or broken, these guys (the skilled ones) can really work wonders. Ding Kings - didn't I see those advertised late at night as sexual enhancment devices?

I have seen this product on my news. On a part of the news once a week or so, they test different products, and a few months back, they tested this. The part of the show is called "Fame or Shame" and after about 15 minutes of testing and talking, they and the mechanics in this case tell whether it gets a fame or shame. This was voted as a Shame
