Steering Wheel Emblem

The Mini Logo in the Center of the Steering has started to flake & look like it is Peeling. Mini says these are replaceable with a New Emblem. They are atttached with Double Back tape. They said you can use a small pick to remove the damaged one & then put the New one on. The emblem itself sells for $3.90. Not a bad Price. My question is has anyone done this? If so was it difficult removing the emblem & then putting the New Emblem on? Thanks.

it'll come off pretty easy, my wifes actually bent cuz she slammed her horn so hard at this SUV that almost merged into hers, and the emblem started to peel up on the side. Good to know that it can be replaced, she was really worried about it. You don't have a part number do you?

Did MINI just change this? I took mine in about 2 months ago for a peeling emblem and they replaced the entire airbag. They said it would have been over $500 if not under warrenty!

That's what I heard. Mine has been peeling up since the first week and i forgot to get them to fix it at my first service. Looks like I'll need to get it done on the second because I'm not forking out $500 for a defective product.

The Dealer, Mini Of Peabody, told me that the Steering Wheel & or the Emblem was covered if Vehicle was still under Warranty. If out of Warranty the Emblem was $3.90 & The Steering wheel was appx. $310.00 + Installation. So, since my Steering is Fine just going to change the Emblem

That's great to hear. Mine was pulling up and I was trying to see if I could pop it out and it bent. I asked my dealer about replacing it and he said that since I messed with it, I'd have to pay for it (fair, but a bummer) and only quoted me the full airbag replacement cost. I'm going to look into this, as the service guys bent it back into place for me, but it still doesn't look great.

Wheel Emblem

The Emblem that i am replacing is for an 03 Mini. The Steering Wheel is a 2 Spoke Wheel. I believe that Mini Changed the Design of the Steering Wheel on the 05 models. So not sure if the Emblem,s are the same. As i understand from my dealer i only have to peel off the old Emblem & put the new one on. Removal of the Center Hub is not necessary & should not be removed due to the Air Bag.Hope this further info helps

Mine isn't peeling or bending, but it has many small dents in it. This is because as I put the seatbelt on and take it off, the metal sometimes "brushes against" the embem, and the silver trim ring surrounding it, leaving small dents.

Apparently the trim ring material is not ver durable, because I am not really contacting it very roughly...

This is a cosmetic thing only, but it annoys me. I hope they replace it under warranty, because it seems awfully fragile to me.

BTW, my car is an '04 with the 2-spoke (the superior) steering wheel...

On the 2005 three spoke steering wheel, the entire unit (which includes the airbag) is replaced when the emblem starts to stick up. We've had two replaced on my wife's - it's been the only thing that has gone bad besides the clock not keeping correct time.

Shoot, so no luck with the '05's and later, huh? I would really like to change mine out, but don't want to spend the $500 on it.

Interesting, I had always been under the assumption that it was not available separately from the steering wheel. Mine's not looking very good any more either. I was going to ask if this was for the newer 3-spoke but you then said it is for (my) older 2-spoke.

Next time I'm in MOP I'll grab one from Scott. You were able to just pry it out with a small crewdriver? A heat gun will probably help too. I may try this soon.

Emblem

I have an '02 with the two spoke wheel and my emblem started to look quite pitted. The dealer replaced it under warrantee but my service advisor, and the receipt, said it required the entire airbag assembly to be replaced. I can't imagine MINI USA paying for an airbag replacement if it only required a $4 part and some sticky tape.

I hope, for you, that was bad info and all you have to do is pry the old one off. I would consider disconnecting the battery and/or whatever else would be required to deactivate the airbag. It could be very dangerous if it accidentally goes off because your pry tool slips or something.

Good luck

OK....I think we need to clarify what part is peeling and what part is replaceable. My understanding is that the center black piece with emblem is replaceable, but the outer silver is not! I found this photo once that told me that I was out of luck because it is the silver ring that i need to replace on mine....but if it is the black badge then you may be in luck

I just spoke to the parts guy at Flow mini and he said that it was not possible to order just the emblem for any year cooper, and that the airbag cover would have to be replaced to get a new emblem.
