is that like the ones at the ContainerStore? the one at the CS were
a little too flimsy for garage use as it felt too light and fragile... but it
might not be bad for light use. i wish someone can make a small
plastic one with high quality quality drawers and casters that
i can roll around the garage in tight areas. not necessarily just for
detailing, but to do electronic work on cars. i don't need a full blown
service cart to do stereo and interior installs... and i dont want any
carts with metal edges as it will ding/scratch car panels if it rubs
agains it.

here's the Elfa from CS... not strong enough for gargage use...

My shelves look like the ones from Griots, but just silver. That cart looks nice, but I too would worry about that around the cars.

How do you clean off synthetic wax, Octane? I usually use dish soap and hot water and a LOT of scrubbing, and it seems like all of the wax never comes out. I worry about it curing inside the pad foam and making it stiff/scratchty... Am I being too ****?

oh, ok. those are good shelves. Im using a Metro shelf (i believe is
the same ones Griots sells) in white. that's the shelf you see that i
converted into a workbench/shelf. I im using several layers of plywood
on the top along with several layers of MDF. Im also using a 2" trim on
the edges to dress it up a little (layers of wood does not look real nice).
It's pretty solid especially after loading it up with the tool boxes.
It's a huge space saver for my garage and looks nice.

The shelves you see on the sides are from HomeDepot. i forgot the
brand but it's the typical household use one in gray.

There wasnt much on them when they fell. For some reason they do not hold well in my garage, even when in the studs. They work great in the basement though. No car to scrach if they fall

Use longer screws or screws with wider threads if they're falling. Unless you're storing rims/wheels or your weight set on them?? If you're going intot he studs, the shelf supports should buckle before the screws pull out of solid wood, bro.

hummm.... maybe your stud's rotting?

mine are solid. i use large screws and make sure not to overtorque
them. i have a ladder on one of the walls above my MCS and for that
i have a backup latch i made on it so that if the hooks fail it will not
fall on my car. i would have to literally cut the latch to get it
off the wall...so only when i really mean to really use it does it come
off the wall.

it will never hurt to clean the pads thoroughly to the point there is no
wax in it, but i think the most important aspec of cleaning the pads is
to make sure the top surface is clean.

if you can get most of it out you should be fine. That's why you
want to dedicate a pad for each wax or polish you use.

Longer screws would work, but I gave up on it. I also like the ablility to move my schelves. You will see why soon enought.

Mounting the ballasts like that is an interesting idea... I'm planning on adding two ballasts on the ceiling in a few days.

unit (additional lights), one on the ceiling, 4 more lights on the
walls. yes, it is nice and bright in the garage when needed.

and they all are connected wirelessly so easy to turn on/off. even
the fan is on wireless switch.

^^ you can get them at RadioShack. flourescent lights are a little
tricky to use wireless as some of them flash while off...it's like static
electricity built up in them that it has enough power to turn itself on
on occassion if you dont use the right switch.

there's one wireless switch RadioShack sells that prevents this
from happening... and i can't find the model at their site... hummm....
I think it retails for like $19... i got it at a RS store that was closing
down at 1/2 price.

If I can get the lights for Christmas, I think I should pop for the few extra bucks for the switch. Do you have a switch for each of yours? thats alot of remotes!

I have 3 remote transmitters on the wall. one for the right wall
(channel A) one for the left wall (channel B), and using a
4 channel transmitter for the center lights, wall incandescent light,
fan, and auxiliary.

Just run wires or get the ballasts that plug into a standard 120v. outlet and run them off a surge protector. I'm planning on using one of those adapters that convert a standard ceiling light fixture into a pair of 120v. 3-prong outlets and just running them off my wall switch. You can run the cord across the ceiling with nail-in cable clips (available for about $3).

I've only tested carpet cleaners used for those heated carpet shampooers from Bissel, Dirt Devil, etc.. and conventional products like Simple Green. Haha, stay away from Gasoline and Acetone if you consider those as cleaners too.

Yep that's what I do too. I think my situation is different from others. I'm using my pads weekly, several times a week, and although I'm alternating pads to give them a rest, I don't have issues of pads getting hard. I've always just washed them in warm water to soften them.

Regardless, you should clean off your pads when you finished using them, before storage by wrapping them with a terry towel with the PC on. As you grip the pad, with the towel around it, the product will get absorbed into the towel, and you will have far less product saturating the pad. Do this a few times, and you should be fine.

Thats what I was going to do, but use the switches so I do not have to have them on all the time, unless the extra light is needed. but I will just run one swtich for now...

Haha, I was not thinking gasoline or acetone, I was thinking spotshot or resolve.
