Bird Poop/ Paint eaten?
Bird Poop/ Paint eaten?
Hi All-
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but we'll see.
The other day I had a bird dookie on my bonnet, and when I washed it off the next day there were three little spots that had been eaten through the paint. (the bird must have been eating acid) I'm on my way to purchasse touch-up paint, but does anyone have any tips or ideas for making the touch up less noticible?
Thanks, Kat

Don't bother with touchup paint until you are sure it cannot be buffed out.

If the bird poo was only on there for a short time--less than a minute, the etching should be minimal and can be buffed off my a detailer. A PC won't remove it, though it may help make it less visible.
You could also try Meguiar's ScratchX which is applied by hand. Read and follow the directions and realize that if you aren't sweating and your fingers aren't hurting, you aren't using the product right.
Finally as a note, today I worked on an Acura TL with a dark blue metallic paint--appeared as black. It had two bird poo etchings and they had gone straight through the clear into the base coat. I buffed on them and had absolutely no effect until I looked closer. What it looked like was paint cracking--like puzzle pieces put together loosely and it appeared to be beneath the clearcoat. No way to repair that other than repaint.
