Wow-Nice but want cheaper alternative

I just used my Griot's Towel for the first time and I am very impressed! I want to get a few more, but they are pricey, is there an equal quality but cheaper price out there?

If there's one near you, Costco is selling packs of microfiber towels for $8.

I'd check out the Sonus towel. I have the gray towels and they work great, but they are thinner...don't sop up quite as much water. There are heavier varieties available...I know Sonus is one of them. Meguiars may be, too.

I've actually heard good things about the Costco microfibers, but I personally use the Sonus towel jds recommended.

I've used the Costco microfibers for things like quick detailing with Griots Speedshine and found them to be ok. No damage done to the finish, and you can't beat the price.

www.microfibertech.com is good too. I love their glass cloths. For drying I've adopted GBMINIGirl's technique of using a California Water Blade, Blow Dryer (or Leaf-Blower), Absorber for nooks, and a WW MF towel for a quick once over to get rid of any water that might be left over.

So does that mean you've personally tried the Costco microfiber towels and are therefore making an informed comment?

Didn't think so.

How does that work with the nice super-hard water here in TX?

Sam's Club...

Also has great microfiber towels for about $8.00 bucks. I have been using them for about 8 months now and I plan to use nothing else but going forward. They may be the same as Costco's, but just in case you are not a member of Costco there is another option.
IMPORTANT...Do not use fabric softener. That will mess them up.

Polyester

Costco micro fibre towels are 80% polyester. According to Sal Zaino, you're not supposed to use ANY polyester content towels on the finish...causes swirls.

So no problems with the polyester micros from Costco???

Careful, careful not all microfibre/waffled towels are created equal. When comparing prices make sure to compare content, only than will you be able to fairly come to the right conclusion. Choosing on price along, like everything else in life could, but not always, get you into more trouble than you think

Couldn't agree with you more!

You may think the cheapo towels are "causing no harm" but the effects are not instantly noticable. Then eventually you are faced with marring and a dullness that you can't explain-or sometimes don't even realize.

And don't forget out and out performance...a polishing towel has a real purpose that differs from a QD'ing towel. And of course waffleweaves are definitely not created equal.

There are other specialty towels in the works that will blow you away! Stay tuned!

I've used the microfibre towels from Costco for the past 9 months on my MCSC, and have developed no swirl marks or noticed any adverse effects as a result. I use them for applying and wiping off SpeedShine from Griot's, as well as buffing off wax (although I've switched to a new buffing microfibre towel from Autopia lately - it tends to "grab" more wax off than the Costco ones). The Coscto towels tend to pick up quite a bit of debris after use, and I don't feel so bad about tossing them after six months or so of use.

In short, the Costco towels may be a good short-term solution if you need a lot of towels and are on a limited budget, but I believe most serious detailers would stand to do better by investing in a set of better-quality towels.
