Sorry to repeat a question that might already have been answered..Do people recommend waxing the car as soon as I get it, or is the finish from the factory adequate?

I waxed mine, but it was mainly because I wanted to fondle the new car!

I am planning consecutive weekends of applying Klasse High Gloss Sealant, then a coat of P21S. I figure the paint has had a month to cure while on the boat and processing at the VPC. So when I receive my mini..... it is off to try and make the ultimate shine!

Logan and Xeon - are your cars cousins?

I was wondering if it's good to just let the dealer put on their paint protection ?

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! DO NOT have the dealer put on "paint protection". It is a silicon based paste that is buffed on. Might as well just use Mop-n-Glo with some clear caulking thrown in...same difference.

I can't say it strongly enough. DO NOT get this stuff on your MINI!!!!!

Davbret, I just looked at the website of a detailer in Seattle I have used many times over the years, and they offer a new car "paint sealant" that is guaranteed for three years. Do you think this is the same thing you're talking about? Are all of these sealants a silicone process? Are any of them any good, in your opinion? I'm a little confused, because this detail shop has done a great job in the past, and I'm suprised they would offer something that was terrible for the car.

There is a paint sealant called TST and it is teflon based. To apply you must use a buffer the get paint surface hot so the TST adhears. The car has to be cleaned with a chemical fallout cleaner before hand.I have had this done on several of my cars, and yes you can buff out scratches if needed. The nice thing is you do not have to wax car unless you want toooo.

Hi There,

What is "Touch of Class"? Is this the same as TST, or does it have silicone? I've scheduled to have this done to my car next week, and I want to be sure it's not "bad" for the mini.

Thanks,
Belle

Well, I can't stop you...but I'd NEVER have it done to my baby. No way, no how.

But heck, I don't even let the dealer hand wash my MINI. Don't trust anyone but myself. I seriously doubt any underpaid, dealer worker is going to do a good job applying this. Too many variables.

Don't do the sealant. If you do, it will be very dificult for a bodyshop to repaint your MINI if you should scratch or dent it. Sealant
is the lazy mans way to a shine. As for me it's wax on wax off and I use Meguires Gold Class clear coat wax. It really shines, protects
and stays on for about six months.

The way some people carry on about the correct way to take care of their paint jobs, you'd think it WAS brain surgery. That's why I asked.

On the other hand, most brain surgery is much cruder than you might imagine. Trust me.

The dealer wants to put Touch of glass on my MINI aswell when it arrives, but I am skeptical about it. From what I am reading my original gut feeling is correct to not have them do this. BTW since they use a buffer to apply the product, can this cause swirl marks in the clear coat?

From what I was told by my dealer, they wash and wax the car as part of their prep. You might want to ask your dealer what they do.

to be certain that the dealer doesn't screw your paint (they're very good at it, many years of practice

My honest opinion...I don't have time to wax my car.
When I first got it, looked fine and H20 beaded. If
it needs to be waxed....I'll take it somewhere to be
done.

I'll be waxing my MINI as soon as I get it home from the dealership. Of course there may be a long delay (drive) between driving off the lot and getting home

I just had some body work done on my Neon and the owner of the shop which had been in business nearly 30 years, told me I could wash and wax the freshly painted area right away. It appears that the newer car paints cure fast enough that you can wash/wax within hours of painting.
