boo residue

hey guys, i had this bird boo on my car for a few hours until i cleaned it off (school) but it left this clear mark/residue that i can't wipe off. i tried clay bar but that didn't work. so did the boo eat through my coating? or any way to remove it?

Get a bootle of 3M Perfect-it Swirl Mark remover for either "Dark" or "Light" colored cars, depending on your MINIs paintwork color. Wash and dry car and apply a couple of coats of the stuff. Don't worry it is clearcoat safe and should leave a smooth, deep finish. Then, follow up with your favorite wax.

After applying the 3M Swirl Mark Remover, you may still see at an angle the offending "Etching" mark over the clearcoat in the affected area where the poo stain was. Don't worry. Typically the remains of the bird poo evaporate over a period of 1 or 2 weeks and after a couple of washes you won't even be able to tell where the stain was to begin with.

Bird Poo is highly acidic and if left for a long period of time can eat through the clearcoat and eventually damage the actual paintwork beneath it. Hopefully the "etching" is only on top of the clearcoat and not the actual paint.

3M products are excellent and you should be able to find them at your nearest auto parts store like "Pep Boys", "Autozone", etc.

Expect to pay around $11 for a bootle of the 3M Swirl Mark Remover.

Hope this helps.

I just had the same problem, however the "dropping" was on the decal (check roof). So there was no clear coat protection. Did have several coats of Zaino, but the outline of the event can still be seen.

Will the 3M Swirl Mark Remover work on the decal?

Wel, I had a new poo spot on my roof after my car was at the dealer for a week getting another funky paint spot fixed (from where glue had oozed out when the spoiler was first attached). I was able to convince them that it was not there when I had first brought it in, so they said they would work on getting the spot out. When I got it back today, it was still rather noticable. The Service Manager came out to look at it and I had to try to convince him that the spot had not previously been there. He looked all over my car trying to find another spot, but couldn't So, they are going to repaint my roof to get the poo spot out

Boo residue

I'm beginning to wonder about Mini paint. I've never owned a car that stained as easily and as stubbornly as my chili red mini. I had a professional sealant applied when the car was about a year old and the bird stuff still satained I've since gone back to wax and find the Mc guires NXT to be pretty good at both protecting from and removing bird stains Still wondering about that Mini paint though

I think some of you guys must be dealing with a rougher class of bird. My Mini is never garaged, and all the birds in the neighborhood recognize it as a target, but I've not had any stains that would not go away. I've used mostly NXT, FWIW.

I am absolutly convinced that the birds in my neighborhood are using my checkered roof to "fly in on the grid" during their bombing runs....

Repainting your roof over bird poo clearcoat etching? Hmmm, that's pretty drastic if you ask me. Your resale value will hurt as soon as that roof is repainted. Think about it before you get too excited about it.

Bird poo is highly acidic and if left baking for days, weeks, months under the sun, it will destroy most any car finish from Yugo to Rolls Royce.

I personally think the Chili Red paint job in my '05 MCS is excellent and the clarcoat + wax is doing a great job in protecting the paint underneath. Red is not the easiest color to upkeep, but it is much better than black which is a pain in the **** to maintain to decent levels.

Also, the factory paint jobs in 99.99% on new cars sold in the United States today is water based (EPA mandated to prevent pollution and contamination) which is good for nature but terrible for the pocket book and not as durable as the old oil based paints.

The whole reason behind the existence of Zainos, acrylic waxes, 3M clearbras, you name it, is to help overcome the inherited weaknesses of water based paints. The MINI paint job is beautiful but it is delicate (Specially the solid colors IMO) and requires commitment if you want to keep it looking its best for years to come.

I am afraid the 3M product might be a bit too agressive on your vinyl roof sticker. I would try a gentler cleaner Polish/wax instead. The 3M Swirl Mark remover is not intended for use in Vinyl stickers (Roof decals and bonnet stripes, for example).
