Intercooler Rub Marks

The foam from the hood leaves ugly marks on the intercooler and my JCW badge . I was able to get them off with rubbing alcohol... but how do you keep them off or prevent them from happening again?

Place clear Mylar type tape on it and replace it as needed. Mylar type tape is similar to the invisable bra material. Good Luck .

I e-mailed JCW about this last year. They told me to use brake cleaner! When the intercooler is installed the foam gasket is oiled to make a better seal.

I have used Simple Green and Windex. Brake cleaner is a little too nasty to be using in the engine compartment.

I wipe the engine compartment and intercooler down every morning. Even though I keep it clean I can see the JCW badge is beginning to discolor, turning a light yellow color like honey. I guess the plastic or clear vinyl is reacting to the oil.

I spoke to my SA and he said it's not covered by the warranty. I'm planning on buying a couple of extra badges for spares.

Aloha!

rubs off

The yellowing does rub off during the application of wax. Protect the decal with a layer of wax to ease cleaning.

I'd bet that WD-40, sprayed onto a cloth and rubbed on, would also remove the black stuff...

Maybe a good coat of wax or polymer (Zaino / Klasse) would help it from happening again?

I originally used simple green and nearly an HOUR of scrubbing to remove it...but then I discovered, WD-40 will remove it instantly! You may wish to follow up with simple green or other soap to remove the WD-40.

My hood actually scratched the lower part of the JCW intercooler cover not to mention make it dirty before the dealer performed the recall for the hood foam . The front badge is also quite beat up from 30,000 miles of road debris. I am going to see if the dealer will replace these items under warranty next time I go in for service.
