Making The Black Molding Shine!??!

Tonight I will attempt to get all the wax residue off of my black wheel arch molding. I already have the advice and techniques from other threads to do this. I want to make my black molding shine though after I do this, not look armorall greasy but almost look wet. Does anyone have any products/techniques to make my arches look like this?

Thanks
Mikey

Peanut butter to get the wax off and Macguire's Tech plastic care on the mouldings.

Peanut butter or peanut oil,any food storeMeguiars products at most auto parts type stores:smile:

Do this first the next time you wax, takes some time putting on,but then you can get the wax right next to the plastic, without worrying about it

It took about 1/2 hour to put on,but it sure made putting the wax on easy.
Just make sure you use a good painters low tack tape, not regular masking tape,or the adhesive may stay on the plastic.

The blue accents the tape give your car looks kinda nifty. Looks like a custom accent paint job with a fraction of the cost. Just dont look to closely

peanut butter is too messy!

I have had good luck with Griot products. Interior clean:smile: er takes the wax right off and their vinal and rubber dressing makes the back trim look like new.

Mothers

I used Mother's "Back to Black" on all the black trim and it looks fantastic, still, even after many washes and rains. It attracts a little dust but cleans up real nice and leaves the plastic very clean and a shiny dark looking.

I swear by Vinylex...makes the trim black, even areas blasted by sand from the road all winter long, and leaves a nice non-greasy shine

I tried the Mother's and did not like it. It looked great at first but then it really collected a lot of dirt. After the second washing it did not collect dirt anymore and still looked good but now after the third washing it is starting to look like it needs to be redone. However, I intend to try another product instead. I did not like doing all that work cleaning my car and then having all the black look filthy after just a few days.

Try Meguiars #40. It takes the black plastic bits to dark black with a slightly shiny look (not too shiny though... very sedate). I love Vinelex and Zaino's rubber treatment, but they wear off a bit too quickly for me.

Out of the two, which is better for the plastic parts: 303 Aerospace or Vinylex? I have both, and to me, it looks identical!

Good call, Lot! I detailed mine today for the first time. Had a bit of previoius haze on the trim so I didn't bother masking. Bad idea.
The PO did a better job of not over running the trim than I did.

Hmm, where's that peanut butter??

Eating My Words

I tried the PB and it took that crap right off, yea!
Once again though I will eat my words on this forum. I previously stated that I would not like the Armorall shine. But arrinving at wally world @ 9 @ night and they didn't have anything else, I bought some...IT DOES NOT make it to greasy or shine too much. Just apply directly to the trim and wipe off with a towel, it's awesome. I'll post some pics later, on my detailing work!

Taping the whole car took alittle more than 1/2 an hour.Got some 303 aerospace protectant today, but it is pouring rain here,so will have to wait on trying it out.
But the the water is beading like crazy after the Meguiars NXT
And used clay did a great job on the windsheild:smile:

With Zaino wax products, you don't have to worry about the chalky or white residue ending up on your flares or skirts...as the Zaino wax dries clear and won't show on the flares when you're done and happen to get a little overlap...but your idea about the tape is good if you're using other wax products that don't dry clear...

Dave.

Mmmmh...I only use Zaino Z2 and had some white residue, nothing major but it was there. It might not be as bad as other wax, but I still think Zaino leaves some residue on the black plastic molding...

I put 2 more coats of Meguiars NXT on the car today, did not tape off the black trim this time.I had no problems, just wiped it off the black trim right away.
I did apply Meguiars #40 mirror glaze vinly & rubber cleaner/conditioner,to the black trim.Seems to work great, even where the plastic is blasted by gravel, right in front of the back wheels.
In this photo the arch is done on the bonnet, not on the 1/4 panel. The difference is amazing in person.

I use vinylex and fit it to do be real good. Granted I haven't used anything else, but the shine is nice and non-greasy. Looks just clean and black, and durability is good as well, i use it on the trim and the tires.
