Top Dressing - RaggTopp Update
Top Dressing - RaggTopp Update
There have been numerous threads discussing what to use on the convertible top.
I used RaggTopp
The photos are of the beading I'm seeing - this is the 4th wash since dressing.
Peter..in Denver

I second that. I used Raggtop and can still "blow" the beaded water right off my 'vert...and I wash it approx every-other-day (it's been since January that I treated my top). Oh, and birdie poo-poo also just comes right off with the spray of the hose.
My husband used it on his Corvette convertible too, and the top looks brand new. It had been looking faded, and now it looks sharp!

That is an awesome product ! I have been using it since it was introduced a few years ago.
On average it will last around 6 months before it starts showing signs you should do another application. It actually beads so well when you wash one with the pressure washer the water just bounces off.

I just washed my car for the second time since picking it up two weeks ago and water certainly does not bead up like that.
I am wondering though what it looked like after you applied it? I mean did it change the appearance at all? Does it look like some kind of wax is on it? I would hate to change the appearance of the material.
Also, how do you apply it? Is it a spray or what?
And, does it help with the white wear marks that many of us who actually drive top-down are getting?
Thanks,
Kris

It did change the appearance of my top, it became more black/dark like it is supposed to be. The top dressing as it came from the dealer had been getting brownish and dingy-looking after just one month! After applying Raggtopp, very impressive and no greasy look at all.
Raggtopp is a spray product and there is quite a bit of overspray when applying it. I brought my MINI into the garage and used painters tape to tape plastic sheeting all around the windows (you don't want to get it on the windows, or if you do, wipe it right off) and the body of the car, and sprayed with the confidence that none would get onto the paint. I applied two coats, even though it seemed greasy after the first application because the dealer did have something on the top already. After the first coat, it seemed to take forever to dry. I actually (gently) patted it down and then waited some time and re-applied the second coat and then moved the car out into the sun. Being in the sun, the second coat dried nice & quick.
Three months later, the water still beads up like mercury, and I wash my MINI almost every-other-day. When I pat the water off the top (after I'm all done washing and drying my MINI), I notice there are sometimes beads of brownish-looking water. This is apparently some dirt that got trapped in a water bubble, and the dirt rolls off just like the water does!
Re: White wear marks - Raggtopp won't help those. Those marks are from where the top rests above the boot in the folded down position. They're simply compacted fabric marks and will eventually wear through, no doubt. This is something the dealer and MINI will have to correct.
