Diamond Ceramic Coating + Weathertech Scratch Protection

My new 2022 F60 came equipped with diamond ceramic exterior protection. From past experience owning cars without such protection, I want to guard as much as I can against fingernail scratches in the door handle cups and dog nail scratches on the hatchback ledge, along with extra protection along the door edges in cramped parking spots. I have no experience with ceramic exterior coatings, and am considering the extra protection offered by the Weathertech transparent film. I want to know if anyone has experience using the film applied over the ceramic coating, and whether it actually provides extra protection or is probably just overkill.

I have no experience with using film over a ceramic coating, but in general the film will provide better protection.

@razz congrats on your F60

No, PPF has to be applied to a car that’s been “prepped”, meaning the paint is corrected (if needed) and free from any wax, sealant or coatings.

If there’s a coating first the PPF will not be able to adhere to the paint and will peel off.

After you have PPF installed you can apply a ceramic coating for additional protection.

My MINI has Xpel PPF and AMMO NYC Reflex Pro Enamel Coat. I would say it’s not overboard to protect the paint.

Hope this helps,

Rich

Thanks. I wasn't aware that PPF, if used, needs to go on before the ceramic coating. I wish I had been advised of that before agreeing to the coating.

WeatherTech scratch protection

I put the WT scratch protection on the handle cups, door edges, and door sills. It
was a bit of a challenge installing it, but turned out really well. Two days later it
rained all night. Oh, I forgot to tell you I had the ceramic protection installed at
my dealership. You guessed it, after the rain most of it was about 50% lose. As I
didn't want to ruin the paint, I stripped it off. The door sill material is still okay.
I didn’t know at the time that it doesn't work over ceramic. I love WT products,
and have used them for most of my cars. In this case I feel WT should have stated
in there advertising or in the instruction sheets. Scratch protection for my Tahoe
cost $89.95, and at this pointit looks like I will have to look at it as an expensive loss.
I did contact WT, and thecontacted me with some question. I responded to them but
have not heard back.
SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!
