door edge guards

Hello,

I'm new to your forum, so please be patient with me. I'll post occasionally and read a lot of postings. For now, I'm looking for some enhancement for my 2006 mini conv.

1. door edge guards, preferabily color coded to match ext. paint. do you know where i can get them?

2. has anyone tried the BMW/mini conv. top protection product? does it do the job and protect the top from the weather, etc?

Hi there and welcome! I had the door edges done at the same time I had the clear bra put on. They used the same material and its worked great so far. If you have considered clear bra or have an installer in your area that might be a good place to start. Happy Motoring!

^ +1. I had the edges of the doors done by ProForm when they put my clearbra on a few months ago. They're even less noticeable than the clearbra line across the bonnet. Much better option than color-coded door guards (they still make those things?).

My problem is not me opening my door into other cars. It's the drivers of other cars opening their doors into my car.

And, to add a standard width protective door strip without taking away from the car's looks is difficult, especially when one encounters other cars with different door heights that come into contact with one's MINI. I almost think a "ClearBra" strip of some width should be run along the sides to help prevent parking lot [and other] dings and scratches.

Right. The door edge strips won't help where we most need it... other driver's negligence or lack of concern for our property.

But it helps when my 11-year old swings the door wide open in the garage or in a parking lot. And it will also help on those rare occasions when the wind gust of 40 mph grabs your door when you open it.

Inexpensive and nearly unnociteable mod, well worth it, IMO.

The mini's design has no rub strip on the side, which looks great, but makes the car vulnerable to casual bumps. It seems everybody expects a car to have protection these days, and don't think twice about bumping a door into the neighboring car.
