Getting Opti-Coat Applied this weekend!

So i brought in my MINI today to get a detailing job.

The guy is gonna apply Opti-Coat on the entire car + the wheels.

I am pretty excited about what this stuff can do.

I am picking up MINI this sunday afternoon.

Anyone can tell me exactly what to expect? Less car washes hopefully??

Never heard of it, but please do give us a review and let us know. I would be interested in something like this if the price is right.

My better half got it on her new Countryman against my recommendation (I'm her personal detailer... LOL).

Yes, it makes the paint minimally easier to clean but as I understand, it will only last about six months. For the price... no thanks!

Their web site makes it sound like it lasts forever. Good to know that isn't the truth. Nothing a good coat of wax can't take care of.

There was a thread a few months ago on this topic and several posters said it wears off after about 6 months.

Yep, good polish/wax protection will have similar results.

I have Opti Coat on my car for over a Year now and it's still there.
Don't knock it till you try it.
Great product!

How exactly do you know it's still there?

Have you waxed the car at all in the year you've had it?

Is your car garaged?

Others who have had it longer than you have said it wears off quickly. Guessing there are differences in the environments.

The car is Garaged and it still beads like crazy.
I'm sure nothing last forever but for me it's still there.
Price wise it's not to bad, one syringe can get you a few applications.

OK so i just got the MINI back.

My detailer told me that on book it is supposed to take at least FOUR months for the opti-coat to cure but i can wash it in the mean time.

Haven't wash it yet or done anything, i'll keep an eye out on any differences and will post on here.

I didn't wash my car for atleast week after application.
Let the car sit out in the sun as much as possible.

Opti-Coat is a permanent coating.

You don't have to wax it as wax will not stick to it. And if you use a wax with cleaners in it it might cause the coating to break down over time. Most turtle wax products have cleaners in them but it does not state it on the bottle. Even though it is a permanent coating the "cleaners" in waxes are actually very fine abrasives that cause surface contaminants to break down, one good way to tell is if you did a thorough cleaning of the car but your foam pad still comes out dirty.

That being said lets talk a little about opti-coat:

-It is one of the only permanent coatings on the market
-It is the original (a lot of imitators on the market now)
-It is resistant to scratching and marring
-If you have a black car and your sick of swirls I highly recommend this.
-If you buy a brand new car honestly I would almost call this mandatory. Why not add another layer of clear coat that is stronger and always there?
-The amount of time washing your car will almost be cut in half

Here is a video of a torture test a fellow detailer did a while back between 2 of the most popular coatings.
