Black Wow Restored My Black Stripes

One of the most annoying things about my new-to-me clubman was the fading and spotting of the stripes the previous owner had installed. I thought they were just dirty at first, but after washing and wiping, they still looked pretty sad.

The detailing supplies I ordered from OctaneGuy arrived today, and on his advice, I tried the Black Wow out on my stripes.

What a difference!!

See attached photo for a side by side comparison.

I have white stripes that were not taken care of by the previous owner. Wonder what would work on those?

I tried using Black Wow (which I love!) on my stripes. They looked good for a day or so then looked worse than before. Granted, I've got my money out of these 3+year old stripes, but I was hoping to get through the winter before replacing them.

This picture shows what they looked like after a few days.

Black Wow was never intended for vinyl stripes. Many people love the look when they first apply it because it is still wet and makes their once shiny vinyl, shiny again..temporarily.

Remember, Black Wow is designed for plastics and to be absorbed and the final look is a matte/satin look. In your application, it will only look good when it's wet and when it's not, it will stand out. It also looks to be applied a little unevenly.

I would gently wipe it even with a microfiber towel at this point.

Thank you Richard. I'm going to attempt to remove it from the stripes.

I originally thought that it wouldn't be effective on vinyl but after reading your posts in this thread congratulating the original poster and giving places to purchase BW, I figured it must be ok! LoL

Lesson learned

After 5 years of neglect and oxidation, I also recently obtained and used some Pre Wow/Black Wow on my 2007 Dodge Caliber, as I'm preparing it to be sold.

I took two pictures in the middle of the process. Note that the car had been thoroughly washed, claybar'd, rinsed and dried at this point. (okay, maybe not thoroughly...)

^^ This is the first thing I've tried that actually seemed to make headway on that black trim piece under the windows.

My wife took the car out of town before I could finish it though. Looking forward to getting back to work.

Also, the brush that came with the Black Wow set I purchased works pretty well, but I think a large head, hard toothbrush just might be better for these small, tight spaces (especially by the windshield)
