Today it was sunny and warmer out so I decided it was a good day for a bath. As I was drying I noticed that the rivets of my jeans has scratched Deora’s paint; about 5 scratches that are about 5” long. They are very minor and no one will ever see them, but it ticks me off because I’m so conscience of that kind of stuff. I've added wearing sweatpants to the regiment. Then, a couple of hours later I was pumping gas while on the phone with a girl from work that I like. I was distracted from what I was doing and broke my gas-pumping-ritual and (go figure) spilled gas on the paint and wheel trim.

So, tomorrow will be another bath. This one will be much less thorough but I can’t just wash a section. Which brings me to a question. Is it possible to over wash a car? My neighbor gives me grief that I’m “going to rub the paint off”. She also comments on how adorable the car is. (She’s around 70 and it seems like she sauced when she talks to me & her little hot-dog; it’s a Datsun – I don’t have a clue how to spell it the right way.) I can’t figure out why she talks to the dog. All it does is bark when it’s near me and it’s quite annoying. She needs to figure out that carwash time is “My time”. So can you over-wash your car?

Today was just a bad-car-day. I'll make it up to her tomorrow!

Get out the Zymol Cleaner Wax, and then many many coats of Zaino Z-5 and Z-2, and Deora's paint will be scratch-free again. As for the fuel spill, EEEK! Wash that off ASAP (although today's paints are designed to repell gasoline, it's still not good to keep it on there)

elbee, I think the old lady next door fancies you. You should dump the girl at work and go out with the old lady next door. She's probably got loads of money, can pay for your new paint job, and a few other nice little extras. All's you've got to do is close your eyes, turn out the lights, and think of work.

Oh yeah and do what Ryephile said too.

Thanks for the info. I'm planning on picking up some of the Zymol & Zanio this afternoon. As far as the gas goes, I think I got most of it off at the pump so todays bath will be a quickie just to make sure it's all removed.

I do love soccer-moms but that's about as old as I could go. I think Mrs. Robinson is going to need to find someone else.

MINIclo - thanks for the correction of Dachshund. Funny how they ar eboth pronounced the same way and spelled so differently.

Ryephile - And last but certainly not least, thanks for the tip as to cure my troubles!!!

You should see how **** they are at auto assembly plants...Everybody has little terry cloth and velcro covers for their belt buckles and watches. Good thing, I suppose. Wouldn't you hate to get a new car with scratches?

Oh, why risk even that? Nude carwashing...it's the only way to go.

(and maybe the lady with the Datsun dog would enjoy that as well )

As most people that know me know, I'm a fanatic for keeping my MINI clean. I like to drive when Lil'Octane is nice and shiny and with his White Wheels, well they need daily cleaning of brake dust.

I used to be a Zaino freak (13 coats on my bonnet)--for about a month! And then I got turned on to Meguiar's NXT and that stuff blew me away. It's way cheaper than Zaino, and offers real protection as well as super deep gloss. (I have an Indi Blue Cooper)

When I first got my car, I washed my baby every week---and sometimes several times in that week! Ugh, what a waste of water! Well, the neighbors started teasing me too asking if I'd wash their car, etc..

Several months later I attended a Meguiars detailing clinic and I found the answer to my dreams. Quick Detailer and microfiber cloths. Ever since I found that out, I wash my car only when he's really dirty, and do that maybe only once every 2 or 3 weeks. But I Quick Detail him every other day, and any time there is dust or any crap that I need to get off. The stuff lasts a long time, and the microfiber cloths pick up any dust or junk without scratching.

So that's what I do now to keep my car shiny all the time. My MINI has 12,500 miles since I picked him up on Sept. 5, 2003.

OctaneGuy,

Where do you get your NXT? Where is it available now?

Thanks!
