In tears over my newly keyed mini

Some #%^#less piece of #@$* keyed my car. This was only discovered today. It is very recent. Is there anything that can be done? Please say yes.

I have no idea who could have done this. I've made people mad in the past like we all have but never to the degree someone would do this. I do have comprehensive but can't afford the deductible.

well paint is going to exceed the deductible. quickly.. I was quoted $500 for my door and $500 for my hood for repainting.

Pics of damage?

Maybe it was not intentional in a malicious sense, but an accident, I have long scratch in my door about 6 inches long that looks like a key mark but was my roomate scratch a power tool on my door.. (he never did fix it.)

But drcolorchip really did a good job of hiding it to an extent. I apply more layers every so often and it slowly but surely leveling out with the original paint.

And there is no saying if the person who keyed the car knew the OP. Sometimes people vandalize things just to do so. Maybe they saw a nice looking car and just wanted to damage it. Hate can be impersonal.

20K is a lot of money to some people! Sure someone would key a car at any price. Many people don't have respect for others property.

Someone keyed about a dozen cars parked up my street, just walked for several blocks keying everything unfortunate enough to be parked there that night. Thank God I was parked around the corner.

Also, if you can't afford to get it painted right away and it is down to the metal, get some clear finger nail polish and place a coat on the scratch. This will protect the metal to keep it from rusting until you can get it fixed.

That's awful. Make an insurance claim and get it done professionally. It'll cost more in the long run to get it painted on your own dime later.

It is way more important to get the job done correctly the first time. If you can squeeze it off, I would definately get it professionally repaired.

Wow, that is awful! I had my old car (Saturn SL2) keyed years ago, and it still makes me angry thinking about it. I can't believe anyone would want to hurt a nice Mini!

late comment but applies to all

ask your insurance what the $ difference would be to drop your COMP' deduct' to zero

you might be VERY surprised

For me with 3 drivers, a MINI and 17y boy driving a Miata the change from a comp $500 deductable to ZERO was about $20 a year

One windshield replacement made the sense come right home . . .

never hurts to ask and all it costs is a phone call . . .

What color is your MINI? Metallics are impossible to repair without respraying the whole panel. If it's not metallic, you have a chance of repairing it satisfactorily though it won't be perfect. Dr. Color Chip isn't for key scratches. It's for little chips only. I talked at length with the owner of the company and we talked about the quality of repairs that their product does and all it does it add color to little chips to make them less visible. It's best for sandblasted chips, not scratches.

Take some pictures of the damage and email them to me and I'll look them over and let you know whether it can be fixed or not.

As an insurance agent you definitely had comprehensive on your new car. hopefully you also had a low deductible. typically $100. Comprehensive claims won't raise your rates so don't be afraid to submit the claim.

$20k is indeed a lot of money for some people. That's about as much as most people in my area take home in a year. A Mini Cooper might as well be an $80,000 BMW if you live in a world of $2,000 Chevys.

My last car was keyed and I know it wasn't personal. Also, it was a 10 year old Buick Lesabre.

Had a couple of cars keyed over the years and two stolen. I know how horrible it makes a person feel. I've come to know that there are scumbags out there just waiting to key or steal anything.
Our number just came up. I'm so sorry it happened to you.
