Any ideas on technique to remove scratches from the windshield? It looks like during new car prep the dealer was using a power buffer and it jumped and it the lower portion of the windshield. I know I can take it back to the dealer but want to avoid a 200 mile round trip if possible.

If the scratch can be felt with your finger nail it will need to be removed by machine. If it is just a slight scuff, you can remove it by hand with a good glass polish.

I've got some nasty pitting all over my windshield (in perhaps two dozen spots). All about the size of a grain of sand. I'm pretty sure I got them at the track (there was some loose/fresh pavement at the edge of the track that was hitting my windshield at over a hundred miles an hour. Is there a process (machine or otherwise) to get rid of these? I had assumed that there was some sort of "filler" out there to fix them up.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Glass is very hard. It can be reglazed, but trying to remove pits and deep scratches on a large area of glass is nearly impossible.

Chitown_COOP,

I have the same thing. I think most people end up with the same results after 15-20k+ miles. I do track days frequently as well but suspect it is from everyday driving. In the sun it looks like it's sprinkling because the windscreen is covered with little pits- thousands of them! I run the windshield wipers/washers hoping it's not really that bad and it'll wipe off... no such luck. Zaino's glass polish hasn't improved the situation much either for me although it does brighten up the glass.

Griot's Garage makes two very good products for polishing your wind shield. I've used the polish with my orbital buffer and the results were amazing. The polshes do remove alot of the scratches; and will help your wind shield wipers last longer. Both the glass polish and the fine glass polish can be used by hand also.
