Clay barring headlights

Santa dropped off some clear protective headlights film by the house. I will be doing more freeway driving so I want to lessen the impact(s) that certain objects could crack the lenses.

I want to make sure the headlight's surface is clean as possible. So can a clay bar be used on the plastic lenses without any scratching or side effects on them?

Headlight lenses are plastic. I wouldn't try it.

Maybe some plastic polish or Plastic-X if you really need to spiffy it up some before the application.

Here's where I'd look for Glass/Plastic Cleaning and Protection!!

I personally would use a headlight polishing kit...then apply the covers.
That way you have the cleanest, and the clearest lens possible...

Some toothpaste is a mild abrasive, I think.

all toothpaste is nothing more than a mild abrasive in a supporting gel/paste with flavor

Search youtube for headlight cleaning and you'll find videos of folks clearing fogged lens with everything from quality rubbing compound to .... toothpaste.

I've polished out many a blemish with toothpaste ... an old guy trick from b4 the companies selling you the same thing under fancy names for 20 times the price!

Want your jewelry to sparkle? Take it into the shower with you and under the stream hit it with your old toothbrush and CREST or COLGATE ....

BLING!!!!

Don't believe .. well pay the $$ ... I'll continue to use Crest!

And your headlights won't have any cavities!

Actually toothpaste is a great product to use for stuff like this.

clayed the lights

I tried claying the headlights on our BMW, it made the plastic lenses silky smooth, but did not remove any pits . Did'nt hurt anything.

sure ... clay is about the equiv' of a 5000 grit sand paper ....

to get a pit out of something you need to remove some material and a 5000, nor even a 2000 grit ain't removing much per swipe . . .

removing a pit happens one of two ways .... you lower the surrounding surface until the 'pit' is no longer a depression .... or you fill the depression with something until it matches the level of the original material
