How Long will Epic Last (in your Garage)

Not on the MINI rather how long will it last in your garage? What is the shelf life? How should Prima Epic or any of the Prima Product Line (i.e. Amigo, Swirl, Epic) be stored for future uses?

Certainly its not "refrigerate after opening" but will Epic stay effective after months of summer heat and cold winters in a garage? Should it be stored inside?

I don't think it is the heat that is a problem. Freezing seems to separate some car drugs. In winter mine come in the house & spend the winter in a warm basement.

i store my detailing gear inside the utility room in the winter time.

i would say prima products can last 3years+ on the shelf if away from sunlight and in a cool place.

Never had anything freeze in the garage as we have relatively mild winters. I have had some meguiars products simply disintegrate or deteriate which could be caused by age and or heat. I've had them longer before I was a prima convert.

I remember reading a post from Heather on this exact subject. Let me see if I can find it. . .

Heat won't affect the Prima polishes as much as freezing will. Essentially, if your bottle freezes, when you put it at room temperature, if it looks like normal consistency, then you should be fine. But if it looks all chunky and weird, then it's probably toast.

In general, you should store your products at room temperature...not the 40deg room in the garage, but the room you mill about your house in, lol.

It's the extreme heat and cold that affect most products. If you have the ability to store them inside in a closet somewhere, I would certainly use that option if I were concerned! Your chemicals are an investment, so take care of them!

. . . And here it is.

See post #14

The shelf life of Hydro and Slick (as well as most other Prima products) is pretty much indefinite.

As mentioned already, you should try to prevent them from freezing. Although most car care chemcials can usually stand a freeze or two, eventually they won't recover (and sometimes don't recover after just one hard freeze).

As lotsie said, as long as the chemicals remix together after a freeze, then they are fine. The risk with freezing is that they seperate in the process.

Bacterial contamination is technically a risk for Slick, but not too likely happen. There are some bacteria that do enjoy munching on the organic scenting oils contained in Slick. True fact. Just keep the cap on when you're not using Slick and your risk drops to nearly nothing. Hydro is not at risk for bacterial contamination.

Enjoy.

Thanks for all the great info Thanks @jckonrad for the reference to Heathers Post. I couldn't find it when I was searching earlier.

Never had the product freeze on me since the garage never gets below 40 degs. Near the NC coast we rarely get snow and winters are very mild. Either way, I'll take advice and store inside (for the winter).

The consistancy of my Epic right now is liquid. Not thick but rather a tad on the thin. Like waffle batter but without the lumps. Not yogurt thick but more less like melted ice cream. Used some a few weeks ago and it seems to be alright. No seperation has ocurred.

Just recieved my amigo and swirl so I'l make sure these don't freeze as well (Thanks @OctaneGuy). I'll store in garage for the time being.
