Did something stupid, need recomendation.

Ok I'm EMC.Guy and i'm a stupid!

I parked my car this morning and apparently the hand brake didn't engage correctly and my car rolled on the parking lot... it stoped when it hit against one of the light poles (Big cement ones so no damage to it) but my rear bumber is broken :( Now i need to have it fixed.
My question here is, I'm located in Sacramento area (Roseville) my dealer is Nello MINI. Does any one have a recommendation fot a good shop that can take of the fix?

Thank you....

yes.. i had to take pictures :(

dont know the locations near you but that bumper needs to be replaced... you're probably looking at $850-1000.

I would call Niello and ask who they recommend.

Always a good plan.

I disagree - it could be repaired, but you'd need to be really sure of the bodyshop's capabilities before you commit to paying for it.

Body filler and Dupli-Color.

What is your insurance deductible? They might know a good shop.

Niello MINI body Shop estimate 1076.00 3 days work, replace rear bumper.
Deductible 500 dollars plus I lose my Distinguished driver discount (100 per year) and get it again in 5 years, so basically i pay for it right now or half now and half over the next 5 years....

Ouch!

How much of that is painting and parts vs labor? You could save yourself some money if you were able to do the labor yourself.

It's probably too late now, but, I encourage you to have your insurance company quote for taking a $0 deductible. When I was with state farm, the difference between 500 and 0 deductible was 20 bucks a year - so it was a no brainer decision to go with 0 deductible.

Bumper cover swap is pretty straightforward... Personally, I'd order a primed bumper from the source with the best price, have it painted by the same body shop that the dealer uses (for best paint match) and install myself. And save a ton of $$$.

Bet you set brake next time.. To bad you are so far away I could fix that and it would only cost you 250, guess its one of the perks of living in the middle of the country.

Yeah I agree - you can get a replacement primed bumper for much less than what that repair will cost and find a body shop to paint match.

We're a pretty high end shop, but we tend to price realistically whereas the dealer has to make their cut as well from the body shop they refer you to. I would guess that it'd cost $500 to fix that here in SoCal, and that would involve sanding the paint down, filling the damage, primering, spraying, wetsanding, compounding, and polishing. It could also be done off the car although having it on can help with paint matching.

Recommendations:
Set your parking brake
Leave your car in gear
Check this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MINI-...item3ef8eaa331 I realize it's for an S, but it's an example of what you can get.

Perhaps you can find a rear bumper in your color from a salvage yard, this way you can skip paint, etc. You may get lucky and have an exact match, or perhaps be close enough that it doesn't hurt your wallet so much.

mini's are very easy to color match. there are usually no alternates. ive done the orange, black, silver, and blues and have never had a problem from my supplier. so that shouldnt be an issue. if the bumper is only chipped which is what appears to be the case by the photo then the bumper can be sanded, primed, painted off the car with no effects of color match and should be no more then 500.
if the bumper is cracked there are very good products out there to repair it, but since it is a flexible part I personally would rather buy a nice used one from a wrecking yard. this lets you use the factory paint as the base for the new paint.

Actually I forgot his was Chili Red when I made the post. That's true color matching isn't really an issue. But I have seen issues on metallics where although the colors matched, in sunlight, they reflected light differently enough to look darker than the OEM paint..something a good painter may have seen while it was being painted within its context. But Chili Red doesn't apply.

The Flow body shop (connected to Flow MINI) had to reshoot my hood to match the Chili Red last year (on a 2008 model) after the first attempt failed. The guy I talked with at the body shop told me they were having a hard time with the CR not matching properly.

Only other thing that'll make it pricey is that its the (non JCW) Aero-Kit bumper... not quite as many laying around... and definately not as many used ones for cheap out there :(

Granted one time someone had front/rear Aero bumpers in the Marketplace for like 300 bucks... was a long while ago though

Contact Andre at Tri-Star Motorsports in Rsvl (916-791-8001) and see if they can fix or recommend someone.

Good luck!
