I finally got a chance to wash my car--it's been >4 weeks.

There was a serious bug issue, so I sprayed the nose with Simple Green, let it sit, wiped it off, then rinsed. Then I claybar-ed. Then washed. And dried. And I noticed that it didn't really look like I HAD claybar-ed, so I felt the paint over the bug spots and it was perfectly smoothe. Nevertheless, I claybar-ed again, using more elbow grease this time. Washed again. Dried. STILL BUG SPLATTERS!!!

The paint, as I said, is wonderfully glassy... to feel. But it looks like it hasn't been washed in weeks. I used the gloss enhancer, then I Zaino'ed, then more gloss enhancer trying to get a little shine over the shadows but alas, it was all for not.

My questions are:

1. Could the bug guts have hazed the paint that quickly?

2. Is there anything I can do? I've done used up all my detailing knowledge...

Heeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllp!

I'm off to find some 3M swirl mark remover--will let you know how it goes, though judging by total lack of interest in this topic, few others have suffered the same plaguey mess!

Me again...

Just an FYI for all those who find themselves swamped by bug stains:

The 3M Perfect-It Swirl Mark Remover (in my case, for dark colored paint) worked WONDERFULLY!!! There are still some little specks visible when the light is just right, but I think if I go over it again tomorrow, it will be totally cured. Yay Ryan for the excellent advice--that stuff rocks!

You should be able to find it any decent auto parts store. I've gotten it in Pep Boys myself, and I think I recall seeing it in a NAPA as well.

It will remove the bugs, but I think a clay bar removes the actual guts with much greater ease. The swirl mark remover is magic on the staining beneath the guts, though...
