Claying

This post is more geared for those who have not clayed before. Honestly, I was never been much for detailing. Heck I generally took vehicle to one of those commercial car washes. Maybe once in a blue moon would I wax a car.......then I ordered a MINI, and I am vowing to myself this baby will always have a high gloss shine.

So I have scanned the detailing threads and learned a great deal....THANK YOU!!!!

Yesterday in preparation for my MINI's arrival, I had all my products in hand and practiced on the wife's 06 Subaru Tribeca. I spent several hours in the process and clayed the entire car....can I say WOW....the car is spotless and after waxing, I swear it looks better that it did on the showroom floor.

I am a new clay convertor....can I hear an AMEN!!!!

AAAAMENNN!

I couldn't agree with you more. I have learned so much from reading/posting threads on the is forum in the past year. I even detail cars for extra cash now, all knowledge coming from the NAM detailing forums.

P.S.- stay away from the street sweeper.

Another AMEN !

I can't believe I never discovered detailing clay until two years ago. I had some other cars I loved and thought they looked pretty good. In retrospect...

Anyone who loves their car and wants it to look great, detailing clay is part of your arsenal to get to that end. In fact, it's one of the most important parts... that, at a random orbital buffer.

It's addictive. +1 on the orbital polisher... easy, fast, hard to screw up, and produces great results.

One thing I learned here that helped me a lot... if you get wax on some trim pieces and it dries white then won't scrub off... try some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab... just work it until the wax is dissolved then use the vinyl dressing of your choice (Armor All, Black Wow, etc.).

Here's a tip. Claybar the glass too. It's not often mentioned, but the same junk that adheres to paint can adhere to glass. I always to do that and follow with Zaino glass polish.

Or you could get it off a lot easier using peanut butter (yes, I did say peanut butter).
