I did a search but i felt i needed to post to get a specific response. I had my hood and bumper replaced after a fender bender about 2 months ago. during that week it rained practically everyday and the week that i got it back. I have noticed that after i washed and waxed my car that i can still see water spots, and some parts of the hood look dull even after a good washing. I am a little worried that it may be permanent, any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Sounds like a less than perfect clear coat job by your repair shop, if they were not there before the repair, they shouldn't be there now !!

I'd take it back !

If it was replaced, it came to the shop un painted and your shop had to paint it and the quality of the paint job falls on them !

If you'd rather deal with it yourself, you could try the following:

Strip the wax off with Dawn Liquid, then claybar to remove the water spots. If successful, re-wax and you're done. If water spots are still there, then bring it back to the paintshop guys.

In addition to a clay bar, try using a mixture of 50/50 distilled water and white vinegar.

Mix it in a dish, soak a towel in it, and lay it on the affected area. Let it set for 3-4 minutes, then remove and rinse with water and towel dry.

You can try putting the solution in a spray bottle and spritzing it on, but I've had better luck with a towel laying on the surface. Works on windows, too.

What you could be seeing is acid rain... I've delivered a few NEW cars that had this issue. We always end up sending it out to a detailing company that performs something that sounds worse than it is.. an ACID BATH. LOL I would push for the company that did the paint work to send it out for the bath... you should have it back in a day in good order without any issues. Best of luck!

weaverpsu did you have the replacement body parts executed through your Mini dealer? If so, bring it back to them and get them to make it perfect the way it should be.
If you did the replacement work your self, meaning you contrated with the body shop yourself, bring it back to them, you souldn't have to do any of that rubbing out yourself.
If you can't get the body shop to do make it right, bring it to a quality detailing company, every town has one these days, they will know how to take care of it. As suggested before it sounds like you will need to strip clean all the existing wax, clay bar it and than re-wax again, but that's a great deal of work and really requires experience using a an orbital buffy if you want to get that new car shine back.

went to body shop that my dealership recommended. they installed parts and painted hood and bumper. i wish i didn't wait so long. its been about 2 months now. seems silly to go back now and show them, that is why i want to do all i can do and if it still looks dull ill bring it in knowing they screwed up for sure.

I have found that using "softened" water keeps all the water spots off and works extremely well in the window washer. Try it and see!
