This has been a most interesting thread. There is a funny thing I've discovered about people who don't like BW (and have the know it all attitude).

They usually fit the following
1.) People who think they know everything so they don't read the instructions.
2.) People who don't accept advice because they know everything
3.) People who try to justify their credibility because they are yada yada yada and unfortunately still don't know anything.
4.) People who just like to be trolls.....

My response is usually this:

Did you try emailing, IMing, Skyping, PMing me, calling me on my Toll Free number to ask me about the product? Maybe I could have helped you before you decided that the product was no good? I would have even offered you your money back if you didn't like the product.

So let me ask you, because of your vast knowledge and credibility as a judge of classic cars--which by the way--most classics have VERY little plastic on them if they are true classics.....

What makes a good trim product? Durability? Looks? Or ease of application?
As a judge, do you even care if a person put on a product on their prized car because it was easy to apply? How would you know?

If BW was streaking, it comes down to only a few possibilities.

1.) You applied way too much product
2.) You didn't properly clean and prep the plastic before applying BW, and that prevented BW from being absorbed.
3.) What applicator did you use? A rag?

Please elaborate on your process so that we can learn from your expertise. Pictures would be helpful as well.

Man ... you guys shouldn't limit this to just a single thread. This needs a forum all its own! And I'm with BlimeyCabrio, I don't know nuffink.

Does everyone feel better now after attacking a fairly new member all because they didn't like a product that many do? Go back & read the OP. It really wasn't snarky at all. The poor guy got one nice response then the attack began. The gang mentality against people who use different detailing products or don't like the same ones as the majority shocks me sometimes
I will say most everyone is nice to me even though I don't drink the koolaid but I hate to see someone get attacked like the OP did I really hate to see something like the 4 categories that most people who don't like Black WOW fit into basically saying if you don't like something then something is wrong with you.

All arguing aside, I can attest that it works very well when used in VERY small amounts. When I used it, the very first fender I tried it on was the hardest to get right. After that, I figured out the proper amount to use and how to spread it correctly. Also, I washed the car after the application. My fenders and other black areas still look great...about a month later.

Actually IMO, the problem wasn't so much with the first post, but it was his followup response that told it all. He insisted he used it correctly and says that we should believe him because he's a national judge of another classic car--that somehow should make us believe that he follows directions to the tee, and listens to others for advice.

I've used and demoed BW on many of the new MINIs and found the only difference between using BW on them versus the 1st gen was in ease of application. The fenders don't just blend into the paint--there is an indentation that makes it easier to get the BW to the edges without really needing the masking card.

If the OP had instead asked for help, instead of assuming that BW is worse than a tire dressing--he makes no mention about looks, protection, or the fact that tire dressings stay sticky, just that he recommends it because it's easier to use and is cheaper--he might have gotten a different response. And of course, the majority of NAMers in the Detailing101 forum are loyal to the bone, and it's no surprise that people might get a little ticked off.

Had he even once mentioned that MAYBE he may have used too much or applied it improperly, or been a little bit more humble, then MAYBE others would have been more helpful, but he made up his mind about why he doesn't like a product and that was it.

However I do have to mention one thing. I did some Googling about the OP and I understand his attitude a bit better. He's a retired fighter pilot. These guys tend to be pretty confident in themselves, and that's probably why he's so sure that he can't possibly be making a mistake.

As for the 4 categories--I'm just saying from my experience with people that insist they can't possibly be wrong and don't like BW, that's usually where they fit in. I'm not expecting EVERYONE to love BW, but I do expect that if they don't like it and want to recommend something else, to atleast use it correctly instead of adopting this "know it all" attitude. Bamatt, you don't have that "superior attitude" so obviously it doesn't apply to you.

On this forum there have been a few others who have reacted the same way. I called them, and offered them advice, or even a personal demo at the shop, but their response was..I don't need it..I know it all already..I've been detailing for 20 years...etc......

Silicone oil last for months, too.

See that response was a little nicer OG. You have to admit the OP was attacked before he ever made a snarky comment. Either way I don't even know the guy I just hate to see people attacked & to be honest the Prima-or-nothing-else gang mentality sometimes makes me hold back my opine & closes the Detaling 101 forum to more open discussion. I never want to say I don't like something because so many get mad. Funny thing is I talk to the inventor of Prima openly about which products I love of theirs vs which just aren't for me, advise is always openly given as to what non-Prima product might look good over what Prima product or work good with what because we all have a different eye when it comes to our finishes & we know what we like. That mentality of not being close-minded & not avowing that Prima is best over all others for everything has made me more trusting & actually made me try more Prima products than I would have. OK I am babbling now but you know what I mean.

I too have a hard time when someone comes on telling me that Turtle Wax is the second coming but it sure would be nice if Detailing 101 was a bit more like Autopia where people felt comfortable posting reviews of a wide spectrum of products as I find that very helpful (in addition to the "how to's" of application)

My thoughts on this are that NONE of us know everything, and that hopefully together we can all learn from one another.

Theresa, I'm sorry, I just don't understand your reply. There were two replies before he replied back. Chucks reply (quoted below) may have been sarcastic, but it's in no way an attack. And based on Chuck and BlimeyCabrio's posting style, I'd say it's pretty much inline with the way they normally post, lol...maybe it's a little disconcerting to the uninitiated.

As far as Auto pee uh--I absolutely hate the forum and don't go there anymore. The best and most knowledgeable people have been banned off of there over the past 6 months for expressing views that don't jive with the majority. I got banned for a month for clarifying misinformation about BW, and several of my forum members got banned for life for stating their views on BW as well.

I find it surprising that you feel that Auto pee uh is less biased. Just look up ONR or some of the more highly touted products that people love--you'll find no shortage of people professing it's the best thing since sliced bread and if you counter them, you'll get ganged up upon.

I will admit I haven't been to Autopia in awhile but it used to be a very nice source for reviews & I used it to figure out which new products I wanted to try out. I was turned onto the Victoria Wax over there but haven't been back since as I am happy with the regime I have set up for detailing now

It's definitely a well travelled forum, but there are others that have a better overall mix of users.

www.detailingbliss.com
www.detailingworld.co.uk
www.showcardetailing.com (haha had to--though it's Prima biased because it's what I use and like)

Anyhooooooo, I'm ready for that hug too!

All of this seems an immense waste of time. Virtually all NAMmers who have used BW love it. Most won't let Turd Wax touch their Mini. The OP is entitled to his opinion and he certainly isn't going to make anyone switch simply because he got streaks. OG, I can understand a bit of defensiveness on your part, but it really isn't worth it.
