Rain-X Glass Cleaner Question

I used some Rain-X glass cleaner the other day. It's claim is to clean and apply Rain-X protection at the same time. However, when applied it seemed OK as I first started wiping it but as it got drier it seemed to get "sticky" and streak. It never really got to a point where it was invisible. There were residual streaks and haze. Since then I tried cleaning it off with regular Windex and it is proving difficult. I can get it looking OK until the morning sun shines on the windshield and I can still see haze and streaks. Is this stuff always this much of a problem? What can I use to get my glass back to being spotlessly clean?

I've never had any luck with it. Some swear by it but I choose to just wax my glass with Epic and be done with it.

Glass cooktop polish .... sold at Sears. This will make your glass perfect. Then use Stoner's Invisible Glass as your regular cleaner.

i use the regular RainX on my commuters. i apply using a paper towel to
a haze. i spray some distilled water over the glass and use paper towels
to remove most of the haze.

then i take DP's MF glass cloth (dry) and wipe off the remaining haze.

very clear glass.

Don't know about the cleaner, but with regular RainX it's easy to use too much. Then it takes an awful lot of work to get the haze gone. Maybe try something like a dish detergent to strip it off the windshield.

One solution is after the rain-x hazes is to use water to get the haze off.
Seems counter-intuitive to "wash" off the rain-x with water after just putting it on, but that works great. kenchan's direction are what I do and no problem with haze.

yah, it's similar to removing wax using some QD. the excess stuff will
come off but the stuff on the surface will stay... just dont rub REAL hard.

Use AQUAPEL, much superior product then rain-x, and it makes no haze.

It's simply amazing, and last a very long time

Had to remove some RainX off a MINI at the Dragon to prep for some sun roof graphics. Ended up using the PC with an orange pad and Swirl--yep! A few minutes of polishing and it was gone.

I use this stuff all the time.

Works awesome.

You gotta make sure your window(s) are perfectly and 100% CLEAN.

If they're aren't you in for some work.

I apply with a towel in circular motions and then let it dry. Once it dries then I buff off with an MF.

Never had a problem.

This was RainX CLEANER and protection. According to the claim it was supposed to clean and apply RainX all in one application. If the glass has to be cleaned before you use the product then what is the point of the cleaner/RainX combination??

i use regular RainX as a cleaner sometimes. it has some sort of agent in
there that pretty much melts away oily gunk on the glass, wiper blade
silicon oil, etc.

the glass does not need to be prefectly clean to have nice results. you
just need to use some distilled water and wipe off, go over it one more
time with a glass MF cloth at the end.

Glass cleaner

The best product I have found is Clarity from Prima. Rain just slides off the glass. Works great on tinted windows and leaves no haze.

When you wash the car.

That's what I mean. Make sure the window is clean.

Once a month or so, i will clean the windows with Windex or Griot's, then apply 2 liberal coats of Rainx, quick buff with fine MF cloth. Then I wash the car, making sure to run the mitt over the new Rainx surfaces. It removes the excess haze, and leaves the windows super clean.

im not sure if putting more rainx = layered protection. i think it just makes it
that much harder to remove the haze.

windex sucks on car glass.

Sort of following directions. They suggest two coats to insure complete coverage. In the past it was always difficult to get all of the haze off, so the car wash afterwards does the trick for me.

I think original post was about new Rain-X glass cleaner.....not the original Rain-X. I've used the new product and was happy with results. But like the original...it takes some final "polishing to get rid of the haze. I apply with paper towls but finish with microfiber cloth (clean) to get glass really clear.
