Brake light lens

Is it normal that the brake light lens is slightly cloudy. Most people wouldn't think about it, but I'm a perfectionist, or at least try to be with my car. Is it supposed to be perfectly clear?

It should be clear. I have used Meguiars Plastx to clean them.

i have the same issue on my left tail lens i think. still clear but, slightly cloudy the only reason i can tell is because i recently replaced my right lamp and it is perfectly clear in comparison. cloudy isn't the EXACT term but, it definitely is not crystal clear like a new lens.

i think it is due to a build up over time on the inside of condensation and maybe road film. i think it is possibly because of the tiny "weep hole" that is on the outside of the lens near the center. i assume the hole is there to release condensation but, the hole also allows and traps some grime in there. i have polished it a few times and it does make it better but, it seems to only get the exterior gunk off. i would imagine to really clean it out you would have to remove the outer lens and get inside to make it perfectly clear again. too much hassle IMO and i would think after a few more months/years, my right lens will match the left .

think you need to pull the light and "break off the lens".
