I saw someone scraping their paint with an ice scraper

I was out driving this morning and saw someone in their driveway cleaning off their car and then proceeded to scrape the ice, vigorously, off the paint on their door and their front quarter panel with an ICE SCRAPER!.....it was obviously NOT a MINI

When I lived in Salt Lake City, I used to watch my neighbor shovel his driveway and the take the SHOVEL to the snow on his car!!!

Everyone has their own level of car of the autos.

What really bothers me is when I see folks only clear enough snow off of the drivers side windshield, then drive off. Leaving snow covered rear window and passenger windshield block. These folks should not be allowed to drive.

And then you have to drive them and get subjected to the onslaught of the snow flying off of their roof and trunk. Very annoying.

You would get stopped and ticketed for driving like that in SLC. Didn't stop a lot of people however.

That probably only happens when it's a cop car that gets stuck behind the offending vehicle.

My favorite incident involving the removal of ice from window of a car happened years ago. Living in an ap't complex and we'd just had a bad ice storm. I'm outside methodically chipping away at the ice on my windshield when a guy who had just moved into the complex from India comes out, apparently running late for an app't. Takes one look at the mess & goes back into his ap't. 5 or 10 minutes later I hear a loud crack, turn to find our hero staring at what used to be his windshield while holding a tea kettle. Laughed for a week...

Hmm, something just popped into my head.

Say you have a thin layer of ice on your window in the morning, would this screw up the BMW/MINI window-opening-half-an-inch thing that it does when you open the door? I guess we should all just be careful of that situation...

No, that would not interfere with the auto-window adjustment feature. The ice just sits on the outside of the glass, and moves independently from the glass itself, so the sheet of ice would not move with the window. The window would move by itself, and the sheet of ice would remain there because the trim at the bottom would hold it from moving down with the window. You could (and I've done it numerous times) roll the window down a bit, and push the ice out in one big sheet if there is enough ice to hold together. If there isn't a full sheet, you should do this cautiously, as it can fall back into the car as it breaks into smaller pieces.

My windows HAVE frozen, and the window will not do the little dance. You can open the door, just be careful as the glass will drag on the roof trim. Usually it is ice on the bottom rubber, which you can remove carefully with an ice scraper.

Not to mention their headlights and taillights! These are the morons that need to be ticketed.
