Plastic seat back scratches?

I have all kinds of minor scuffs/scratches on the plastic pieces that make up the rear of the front seats. What can I use to disguise/repair them? I was thinking of actual paint in a matching color (black). Anyone try this? Is there some kind of conditioner on the market that works for this? Thanks.

Yea I got the same problem on my car too. Also it's on the boot as well. But thats what happens when you buy a used car, so I have to live with it.

I don't think there's really a way to deal with it, except to get new pieces to replace them. I think someone was going to try melting wax into theirs...but I never heard how that turned out so my guess is they either didn't do it or it didn't work.

I condition the crap out of mine but they're still there, even the more scuff-like ones.

Maybe one of those wax furniture scratch crayons? I don't know if they make black though...

I have a black wax pencil that I use in my office and I tried this on the scratches and it hides them pretty well...just wax pencil in pretty thoroughly and messily and then wipe off with a cloth...it doesn't fill the scratches in completely, but colors the inside of the scratches to make them blend in......my interior plastic is the darker gray, anthracite? (in '04 there were two grays to choose from, a light and a dark)

We have a product called Rubber Black from Leatherique that I'm betting would work great for this. We don't currently have it on our website because the bottles are very ugly and the labels were leaked upon during transit to us. They look really cruddy but the product works really well on rubber, vinyl and plastics. It sounds like it could be a great answer to your problem!

How about this...
I'll send you some, SeattleMiniMan, and you can review it for all of us here on NAM for your issue. It sounds like others have the same problem. If this solves it, then I'll put the stuff on our website with all its ugliness (but at a discount of course!).

SeattleMM... do you accept my challenge??

I wish I would have read this post a couple of weeks ago. I got fed up with mine looking like crap, so I took them off and painted them. That didn't help matters any... All it too was one swipe from something hitting it and the paint scraped off in a section. I'm currently thinking of just buying new seatbacks...

If I didn't paint mine, I'd take them up on the offer.

BTW, I checked the wax pencil I used and it is a black 'china marker' made by Dixon.....bought either at an artsupply store or Staples....works pretty well, and easy

Heather, if SeattleMM doesn't want to be the guinea pig, I certainly would! I am tired of the seeing scratches on the back of my seats!!

Yeah, that's why I waited for you... I thought perhaps you have more of a life than some of us out here! (I won't bring up your lack of NAM-dedication though... )

I'll PM you shortly for your mailing info. Just be sure to report back quickly or some of these guys out here will panic.

Thanks for being the guinea pig!

I tried something to heat up the plastic a little to see if I could get the scratches to "melt" back into place. It was this cheap little heat tool with some texture squares. Didn't work great. Actually though, if the thing would have gotten a little hotter, I think it may have worked. Though the plastic may have been discolored, and the texture wouldn't have matched exactly.
