i tried nufinish on my rims, it helps some but basically it's just a bit easier to clean, not a whole lot.

i suggest you try these:

Prima Wheelsheild (once a month or so)
Prima Hydro (after each wash)

www.detailersparadise.com

brake dust easily washes off with my car shampoo and a boar's hair brush.

I tried WheelWax (link below) for the first time last week. So far I have to say that it has made a difference in the amount of brake dust on the wheel.

Not sure if you were referring to the wax preventing the dust from getting on the rims as you drive or referring to cleaning the dust off the rims.

The wax will not prevent the brake dust from getting on the rims as you drive. However, the wax will make it easier to clean the rims since the brake dust won't stick as bad. I wax mine and most of the time can just wipe the dust off with a towel.

I must admit I haven't tried the WheelWax mentioned above to see if it cuts down on the amount of dust on the wheel in the first place. May have to check that out.

if you find that waxing in a cw circular motion increases brake dust
build up, just wax it in a ccw circular motion next time and the polarity
will be opposite and dust will not attach to the wheel.

I've used plain-old Turtlewax... it makes life easier to remove brake dust.

I personally use an axially-polar movement for both wax application and removal.

Simple Green removes old wax and brakedust very quickly and easily.
And smells good too.

I waxed my new R90s with Blitz. I use S-100 total cycle cleaner (50/50 water mix) to clean my wheels. It melts any brake dust right off. Wheels will be re-waxed at each tire rotation.

I have Wheel Shield on my wheels. It doesn't stop the dust but it makes it much easier to remove. I'd say 75% of it melts right off with the hose before I even soap up.

Then I just use QD and cheapie MFs to remove whatever is left after I wash.

wheel wax is ok

I've also tried Wheel Wax. It's not going to help with brakedust build up but it does make it easier to just rinse off. If you wash your car once a week, it will save you some time since the breakdust seems to rinse off the wheels much more than without.

^^ another reason why people should just use Hydro vs wheel wax.

Just spray over the entire wheel (one squirt) and wipe off with a soft
paper towel. will last one month easily...

I've tried WheelWax and depending on the water pressure it doesn't help at all with just rinsing the dust off. Yes, it does make it easier to wipe off but I have not been able to "rinse" off the dust any better than I was able to before applying the wax.

I think the Wheel Shield from DP is a spray on product as well. If your wheels have lots of nooks and crannies, wheel wax takes some time to apply and wipe off. Any spray on product would be much easier to apply. I'll be ordering some Wheel Shield with the my next DP order.

Wheel Shield is not spray-on. It's a very thin liquid wax.

Now, that might be a good reason for me to invest in some Hydro. Question though; If you get it on the tire, does it show?

Does Hydro require any cure time?

no, the tire will get clean, but the mist does not really affect the appearance
of the tire. the tire will not get white either.

Hydro does not require immediate dry time...just mist and wipe.
it will cure on its own over the course of 24hrs.

so, are you sold on the gallon?

A gallon would be overkill and would likely ruin in the garage (it regularly gets to 130F in the garage during the summertime). The only use I would have for it is for the wheels. Once a week spritz at each corner should make the small bottle last a long time.

I'll give it a go and see if that helps with the wheel cleaning. Until ceramic pads are available for R56 Cooper, the brake dust is going to stay at horrific levels. I have the same problem with the Lexus. The pain of buying a new year model car. OY!

The 18" monsters on the Lexus are far more difficult to keep clean.

sounds good. it will definitely make it easier the next time you wash.
otherwise i would not have purchased mesh wheels for my commuter.
