Mystique Car shampoo - Strange stuff

I received my bottle of Mystique. 1 gallon jug.

It is the best soap I have used. I think.

I am not sure what it is actually. It hardly makes ANY bubbles. You can tell that it is doing something as the treated area of the car's water acts differently than the non treated area.

I do not know if you can call it soap. I am using 1.5 ounces per wash. It seems like a good amount in a near full 5 gallon container. I could probably use less, but, eh, I like the "lubricity" of the stuff and I do not want to mess with it. Plus, I use it to wash my wheels, so it is saving me money in not having to use a separate wheel wash.

THe car looks great after I wash with it. After I am done with cleaning, I use an open hose on the car to pull off the droplets of water. The epic underneath with a layer of hydro from the last wash repels water very well. That might change as the epic gets older, but I will have to see.

I like the stuff a lot. It doesnt smell nearly as good as Griot's car wash, but it cleans REALLY well. I cannot tell if it cleans better than Griot's as Griot's was over regular hard paste wax. Carnauba tends to grab dirt a little easier than epic/hydro do. I think mystique doesnt impress with bubbles or a super cool coconut smell :( BUT, it cleans the crap out of the car and leaves a glow.

I suggest more scent.

Hydro smells nice. Make mystique more aromatic!

I havent needed more than 1 swab ever of the wool wash mitt to pull off 100% of the dirt. It even 1 swabs the area near the rear wheels which gets the most road gunk on it. Griot's had to get a 2nd wash there. Again, I duno as griot's was washing a natural waxed car.

however, it is cool, gets my vote. Very smart product. I can see why Bamatt likes her poly-soap stuff. I bet it is awesome on Klasse. I can see why now. Klasse is tough stuff that likes top coatings, so a strong polymer based wash would be cool on it. Mystique does that for Epic. really neat

The was process with epic on and then mystique is SUPER fast.

On the wheels, it rox with Wheel Shield.

Wheel shield does everything you'd want. It is SUPER TOUGH like a rock on the wheels. Mystique excess wash water and my trusty Griot's short handled natural boar's bristle brush (they are the best hands down) makes for 20 seconds each wheel to remove a week of light driving. I then use the rest of my whatever is left of the gallon of Speedshine to clean it afterwards for a nice glow. Wheelshield + qd spray after cleaning makes them sick awesome glowing wheels of glory. I know it is furthering the protection by adding a gentle qd slickness, and it now is cheaper and looks 10x better.

so, I am happy with it all. Wheel shield + mystique + hydro after EVERY wash + epic base 1 coat.... pimp dawg.

Mmmm I love the smell of Mystique. I sorta wish I could shampoo my hair with it

And as far as bubbles...bubbles don't matter. A neutral (or close to it) pH and lots of lubricity are more important.

... and if you set the gallon jug of Mystique in the sun, it will change colors. Mine is always in the garage so it is purple, but set it in the sun for a bit and it changes to green. How fun is that!
If you really want some bubbles fill your 5 gallon pail up to about 4-1/2 gallons and add your Mystique, then top off with the hose. You'll get some bubbles. But as ML said bubbles are so 80's!

Hmmmmm... do I have a bottle of the Top Secret and very elusive Super Mystique ??

Mine surely develops bubbles and I'm not filling the bucket with any high pressure hose.... just from the kitchen tap.

And yes, mine does smell pretty good. And Mel, who says you can't wash your hair with it ??!!??

Do you put the soap in first, or after you put in the water? I put mine in after, because I don't really care for bubbles. Unless I'm at the cabin, which for some reason causes me to want a bucket with foamy soap to wash with, in which case I use Meguiar's Soft Wash (it makes crazy foam). But normally, in my own driveway, foam is just a PITA.

And I suppose I *could* try washing my hair with it. But I can't imagine it would turn out well.

I put mine in first. The amount of bubbles is not overwhelming like some car shampoos. Like Goldilocks said... it's juuuuuuuuust right.

Yeah, maybe the Mystique would add non-essential oils and lubricants to your hair. Not good. And after seeing your pics in the "oh crap, I hit my wood chipper" thread, we know how nice your hair is without Mystique. So better leave that experiment up to us nearly-bald guys.

I have to say, the comment left me wondering what Mystique polymers would do to hair...

I sense a new thread- post your hair on Mystique! Oooo, shiny. Maybe some Hydro for extra body or epic for long lasting hold

What I wonder is, will it take 3 months for the polymers to wash out? Or will I have to use some PaintPrep?

I can say that, for sure, the mystique reduces the time it takes to wash the car. It makes it easier to rinse, and to wipe off the dirt.

impressed by the DP line.

Prima makes some great products. I'm part of the Mystique Gallon Club. Best wash I've used in a long while. The combo of Epic (twice annually)/Mystique/Hydro/Slick is just about a perfect prep/wash/finish routine. The paint on my cars has never looked better.

when you dunk your head in the shampoo bucket, make sure your hair does not get entangled in the Grit Guard.....but it will be easier to rinse your hair if you are employing the two bucket method and thus have a rinsing bucket with clean water all ready for the second dunking

There are a fairly surprising number of Cooper Owners of Rural Nebraska folk running around on NAM.

I used mystique for the first time this weekend. I was surprised by the lack of bubbles/foam. I was convinced I needed to add more mystique. It seems to work great regardless.

I tried adding more Mystique, like 2.5 ounces vs 1.5 ounce concentration. I did not notice that big of a difference in slip. There was some there though. 1.5 seems to be good for 4 1/2 gallons of water.

As per directions on bottle: 0.5 oz / gallon
I have a marked measuring cup with 2 oz marked and I use it in 4 gallons of water in my 5 gallon bucket.
