So I came home the proud owner of a new gallon of Wheel Brightener. It's like a miracle!
Well Mel, if you're going to start using the Wheel Brightner don't bother waxing your rims. Spritz, spritz and not only does your brake dust disappear but so too your Wheel Shield or Wheel Wax or Hydro or Epic.
Still don't think you need to use it if you wax your wheels with the right stuff.
Glad you got you MINI back and I'm happy (not surprised) that OG did a good job for you.
Happy motoring!

I'm really okay with that...because my summer wheels are so futzy (to borrow a word from my mother) to clean, it doesn't matter to me if they're waxed...there are all those little spaces to get into. My winter 5-stars I'll still wax and rinse off, because it works on them...but on the flame spokes, it's just too much!

It's fine for painted/clearcoated wheels. Otherwise, yeah, I'd stay away.

how would you compare it with Griot's wheel cleaner?

Griot's didn't do anything to my brake dust. This stuff melts it off.

Big difference.

You guys just don't know what you're missing until you try it. I've been touting this stuff for years, and the same arguments come back--maybe it's too strong??---that's why you dilute it--we had it on the weakest concentration of 4:1 that is 4 parts water, 1 part WB. A gallon jug will last you forever--I've had the same jug for well over 3 years and it's still half full.

The brake dust that was on ML's wheels was on pretty good. If WB doesn't remove them more than 95% in the first application--then there's a good chance that you would been doing a lot of rubbing and hand scrubbing without it whereas a second application will easily remove what remains.

WB is only for painted wheels. For all MINI factory wheels--it's the best stuff in the world IMO. For aftermarket wheels--polished, chrome, etc... don't even bother trying it--like any wheel cleaner it will fog polished aluminum wheels.

How does it compare to Griots? I don't know actually. I've tried many wheel cleaners--most smell caustic and hazardous. Those that don't tend to be about as effective as water. I have found it to be safe when used as per the directions, and very effective, and has a pretty good following among the users. Since Ken barely drives his MINI, I can't see this being a product for him since it shines at removing hard to remove brake dust.

As for whether Melissa needs to stop waxing her wheels--think about it. Why did she do it in the first place? To make brake dust removal easier. Well now she's got something even easier--just spray it on and rinse it off. It's cut a huge amount of time off her cleaning her wheels. Time that can be better spent on waxing her paint or just plain relaxing!
