Stripping Synthetic Wax?

How is it done? I've read that Dawn will only get rid of carnuba, is this true?

Yeah, use Dawn for Carnauba. For synthetic wax I use a mix of 50/50 water & Alcohol. Vinegar also works well but ... pew! I spritz the mix on with a spray bottle saturating really well and do the whole car. Then I go back and wash with a cheapy car shampoo like Gold Class and I'm ready to clay. You can also use a paint prep like P21S Paintworks Cleanser.

curious...why doyou want to strip it? if it hasn't been done recently, I would think there would be no problem putting another similar sealant over it, right? If you used zaino Z2 and it has been a few months, I am assuming you could put Epic over it, but maybe Heather could chime in. If you want to use canuba instead, you can put it right over the sealant.

if the car is clean, i dont clay before i wax. often times i find myself spot
claying just the areas that have contaminants... ie: rear bumper, top
panels on commuters.

The clay will strip any sealant except Zaino, or so they claim. Clay has totally removed any sealant that I've used with no problem. Also, any cleaner polish like Menzerna, etc. will strip any previously applied sealant.

not all clay are equal. also, the clay might remove the wax, but your
towel that you wipe the QD with will contain some wax in liquid form from
accumulation... which will re-apply back onto the panel after each wipe.

best to just use PaintPrep and wash it off the car.

Use P21S Auto Wash to get rid of the synthetic and carnuba on your paint. Use about a cup auto wash in your 5 gallon bucket and fill it with water. This mixture will strip all the wax on your car and prep it for whatever you intend to put on like a carnuba or synthetic. I have tried it many times and it works great.

Says this about the P21S Auto Wash:
"P21S High Performance Total Auto Wash - This is probably the most powerful automotive cleaning product on the market today that still offers the famous P21S surface safety. One well known Porsche restoration specialists swears by P21S Auto Wash to get the dirt and grime out of rocker panels, engines and other hard to reach places. This formula is terrific for removing diesel soot and other tough stains that other car wash products just can't seem to cut. Got a wax or grime build up on your paintwork? No problem. This stuff's got the horsepower to cut the mustard. Where does all the power come from? The P21S detergent formula, plus the addition of a powerful citrus solvent add up to unmatched cleaning power. P21S Auto Wash is even fun to use, with its woderfully fresh orange scent. Just try scrubbing up a set of floor mats and enjoy a fesh, clean aroma in your car for days. It's also terrific for the tough soils RVs get into! Available in three sizes: 1 liter (33.8 fl oz) - Bottle with sprayer, 1 liter (33.8 fl oz) - Refill bottle and 5 liter (1.32 US gal) - Canister. Sprayer - Heavy duty sprayer for 5 liter canister, with six foot spray hose."

Sounds interesting. P21S makes good products.

Ken - I've had horses that are in season longer than you.
If it is above 32 deg it is still detailing season.

Yes, it is safe for all surfaces, but if you are going to wash the entire car, put about a cup or two in the 5 gallon bucket and add water to dilute it. It works great to strip all the wax off and it is safer than using dawn. I absolutely love this product.

How much Dawn per a 5 gallon bucket should I use for the carnauba de-waxing?

I dump a massive chunk of it to do it

I found it gets off most but not all. i follow up with 50/50 isopropyl and water. that seemed to really get it off after the dawn.

I use a griot's soft claybar before I ever wax. works well. Some say it is overboard to do it like that, but eh, my car looks awesome
