Thinking about making this my job...

I plan on going to the local detailing garages this week and talking with the owners trying to get a job doing something I love. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to say/bring with me to show that I am competent and have some understanding of what I am doing to better my chances?

I already plan on making sure my MINI is in prestine condition when I go up, just a little, look what I can do

Take a car with you that needed detailed big time, and now is half done to perfection. Show them what you can do!

Go for it. You can always quit.

The halfway done idea is clever.

What can you do for this?

Hmm I think I could wash it, and it make it looks like a clean rust bucket

Will do, and just for you, I'll take my bottle of Hydro

Think I should print out this picture and take it with me, to show one of my details?

Test spot on a Jetta...

I just got home, things seemed to go well . Well, things DID go well. I gotta paraphrase what was said because my memory isn't perfect. But his closing speech was something like...

I got another guy coming in later, I dont know why, but I got like 3 calls this week about people wanting to work here, but unless the guy that comes in is a meguiars rep or some prodegy or something, expect a call Thursday.

When you get the job, I might have to make a trip up to Balto to see what you can do. Did I mention I am a prodegy and a meguiars rep.?

Good luck Jeremy, there's nothing better than doing something you love! If this just wasn't meant to work out, keep at it!

Good luck with the job, looks like you're going to get it. If it doesn't work out, give him a call, thank him for the chance to interview and ask him if it's OK to call him a couple of times a month to check on future openings. Keep after it and good luck!

Oh no! Umm, don't you have to go pick up your mom and take her to the store later today, yes! Ha, now you can't make your interview .

Your more then welcome to come up sometime, I will still do MINIs for cheap, since they are SOOO easy to make them look awesome

Thanks, we shall see if I still love it doing it day in-day out. On non-MINIs.

Doing something you love for a living is certainly cool. More power to you.

OTH, what about college, getting a degree (or more), settling down with the wife, getting a nice little house with a white picket fence, two kids and a dog?

Oh wait, lets not jump ahead. What about college?

Good luck Jeremy. I hope it works out, even if it doesn't it may give you the desire to go to college so you don't have to do "that" for a living! Working in retail helped me get through school just so I would have better options!-not to say working for yourself/owning a detailing shop is not a good thing. If this does work out(I think it will) take some time to learn the nuts and bolts of the boring business part so you can open your own shop soon and then....?

Start your own detailing business Easiest money I have ever made ( I used to caddy, and that was pretty easy. With detailing, if I work hard for 2 hours, and can make the same amount that used to take me 4)

What? You don't think young ladies frequent detailing shops

Oh yeah, probably not. They are too busy partying at the Frat houses ....

Chows- yah, you're probably right.

If I do a shop as a hobby, I would keep cute girls there at the counter so they can fish young guys to buy Hydro. Lol. have like a hang out place for them so I can keep an eye on those kids (including mine when they are older) while they have fun detailing their cars. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

Probably a great way to engage with young folks while having fun and keeping them out of harms way.
