Congrats, Jeremy !!
Glad you got a job that you think you'll love !! If you can't find a job that makes you rich, the next best thing is to find one you enjoy !
Yep, pretty soon I bet you'll start your own detailing business. Owing your own business comes with risk, but it also comes with the potential to make BIG money. And then you won't need that college degree to get a hot, young thing.
By the way, if you're not going to share with us the name of the shop, at least tell us in what part of Baltimore it's located ! I'm guessing Whitemarsh.

Thanks to all above! I'm so excited!
It is technically Middle River I think, but if you use White Marsh google will find it. It is called "The Detailing Man." I talked with the owner and said that any MINIs that come in I want to do, and he said thats fine, so if you bring up your MINI I can (almost) gaurentee I'll do it. (But then again, there is always the weekend driveway session that I love, because it gives me the chance to chat with the MINIac as I work
)
Congrats, Jeremy !!

Congrats Jeremy.
I know a young detailer who works at a local wash. He is really customer focused, knows his product and had the right skills and attitude. Now he manages the entire shop.
Good luck with the new job, do it with zeal.

YAY, Jeremy!!! I'm so proud of you!
Do your best, enjoy the job, and try to learn as much as you can about how to run the business so you can start your own detailing business one day!

You should see if they would mind you taking before and after photos of the cars you do. This way you can develop your own detailing portfolio. You can rationalize it by saying they can use the pictures for marketing and display purposes.
Just walked in, boy...100˚ + high humidity = BLAH!
This place is a drive-through car wash compared to Richard's work. Since the majority of the work they do is for used car dealers (CarMax, Enterprise Sales, and Tompson) they are more focused on making the interior look great and just getting a coat of wax on the exterior paint.
1st car I did today was a Black 07' Dodge Charger, those things are decivingly large. I cranked it out in about 4.5 hours (which is about 1.5 hours longer then what they avg. per car.) They POWERWASH the interior carpet! Does that scream "MOLD!" to anyone else? Then they rip out the back seat and spray that down real good and let it dry in the sun with the floor mats. Then they use some generic interior spray to clean up the vynal/plastic bits and then vacuum up the remaining dirt on the floors. Then we do a quick wash (1 bucket, not a sheepskin mitt, no grit gaurd) and then wheel it inside to dry it and do the wax. The owner took out his rotary buffer with 6" pad to "fill" (yes, he said fill) the bigger scratches if he could. Then he gave me a bottle of his crappy wax (24oz and he said it costs $8) and a big ole' random orbital buffer, with a terry cotton bonnet! to wax the car. After I got the coat of wax on I started to read the bottle to check what their recommended dry time was, and the owner said just give it 5 minutes and it will be good. (I never found it on the bottle.) After I buffed I used some generic window cleaner to spruce up the windows. Pulled it back outside where all the swirls were so prevelant that I literally cringed at the sight. After the Charger I started on a Beige Caravan. The owners wife helped with that and we knocked it out in about 2 hours using the same (crappy) method and supplies.
After doing my 7+ hour driveway details I would never take a car or recommend a car to go to this place (but my driveway is still an option.) I guess that with the contracts they have quanity is more important then quality, but AHHHH to the swirls! I guess that perfection will be left to Show Car Detailing, and my best work will remain in my driveway (still open

You would be surprised at how few people actually notice swirls, or even think of them as other than normal. Most judge a car on shine.
I'm sure you will have to tone down your OCD to work at a mass quantity detailing shop, but it will be good experience for a while.
