[Sun, April 22 8-8:30 meet] MINIs By The Bay IV
Well, here's a list of the ones sold at Best Buy, as a starting point:
Best Buy - 2 Way Radios
Personally, I have and like the Motorola SX700Rs... although they are the most expensive ones too.
They are fairly powerful - 2 Watts, which is great for transmitting in more difficult areas (like mountains). However, using 2 Watts to transmit will suck the battery a lot faster. Fortunately, they have a second button you can hit to transmit at only 0.5 Watts, thus saving the battery. I use 0.5 Watts most of the time, and I save the 2 Watts transmit for those moments when the other person is just a bit too far away.
In any case, any model will work out, as long as it supports 22 channels (i.e. both FRS and GRMS), and also supports subchannels.
Seems that one of the Midland models (GXT635VP3) is 5 watt model and cheaper than the Motorola, but appearance and design might be factors for you too.

Yep, if you select a leg and hit play, it'll take you the whole way. Play with terrain enhancement and camera angles and it gets pretty good. The only problem I kept having was the continual streaming. The terrain was always out of focus. It almost seems as if Google Earth isn't using its cache properly... I may research that.
Glad ya like it

I figure with the number of times I have looked at this route, it will be sad if I got lost
I "fixed" that by bumping up my disk cache to 3 GB & letting it run through both routes at a really slow speed while I did something else. Came back, changed the speed and it was good.

Alright all, I'll see you's tomorrow! A few reminders/notes:
- Remember radios (set to channel 7, subchannel 21)
- Some cash for the restaurant (about $20 per person should be more than enough for lunch, tax, and tip)
And that we'll be leaving promptly at 9 AM. We gotta get out early enough to make the restaurant by 11 AM!
Also, I'm going to need at least one volunteer, and probably two, to break the group up and lead smaller groups. We simply have too many cars signed up to go in one big group. Keeping 20 in one line is hard enough... 50 is darn near impossible!! The route is nearly the same as last year, so if you have experience, you should be ok!
Please print a copy of the route to follow along with. If you can't though, or you forget, no worries. I'll have a bunch of copies to hand out.
See you all tomorrow!!

Home Safe and Sound, (and called out of work

) Just too tired, and my back hurts from yesterday doing our beltline...Oh well, not too worried!
So glad to see everyone who came out to join us on this run! I was very happy to see all the new members, sorry we didn't all get to chat, but I am SURE we will meet again!
I hope everyone had a good time, didn't get too sunburned(I did
) and enjoyed the day.

Thanks to everyone that helped with this event today (special thanks to the sweepers that ensured everyone kept up) - it was a huge success and everyone had a great time! Quite a few of the motorers were first time runners so it was awesome to meet new members! For those of you that missed it - KRUT as leader - I DID get everyone LOST right off the bat! All par for the course. :-)

A great run, as always. Cheers to Paul! for his awesome organization!
The only suggested addition to the route list - the name of the ice cream
stop at the end ("Italian Market", right?), so we know what to look for. "Turn into parking lot" isn't very specific.
Other than that... and Krut's wrong turn right at the start when leaving McDonald's (Group 2)... it was a perfect day!
