$45 dollars for auto-x at dragon... whaaat?

I am not one to ***** too often, but i just went to register for the auto-x at the dragon and it says 45 dollars???? To autocross. I hope they are donating the money to charity or giving out free sets of hoosiers to the winners. Never paid over $15 to run... in my life.. LOL.

maybe im the only one here...

Wow, count yourself lucky. Here in California - the lawsuit capital of the world - it is nearly impossible to put an autocross together. We were looking at over $200 a person a while back.

Rates vary with venue cost/rental and insurance costs.

In my area it's about $1000 for any venue site or more per day.

I've been autocrossing since 2003 and cost has been from $20 to $30 per person.

You costs can vary with the number of drivers, the more the less you might have to individually pay.

This weekend we just did a fun run autocross for half a day for $10 per driver. No official results just for fun. Got about 10 runs in.

yikes. guess i gotta get with the times then!

I do understand the legalities though. Insurance is a big money drainer. If it was SCCA members only, that would be a lot cheaper, as with membership you get a blanket insurance policy.

$45.00 is bit steep but in the DC Metro area I never found anything for less than $30.00 (w/ membership).
I did the Dragon autoX last year and it was fun, well organized and they even had ball caps for 1st, 2nd 3rd place. I still have mine !!!

I am glad they are re-doing the event this event as is the SAFEST way to enjoy your MINI and to test your ability, plus the road to the autox place from/to Fontana is very nice !!

It's $25 in Dayton, OH. MVSCC (Miami Valley Sports Car Club) runs at the Nutter Center at WSU. Lots of dates this year.

I pay $15 in Virginia Beach, but $30 in the DC region. If you calculate the gas I have to use going to and from VA Beach, I'd rather pay the $30 in DC.

I would also like to know where in DC you race for $15!

Here in Denver the rate is $30.00 if you are a SCCA member and $45.00 if you are not...this is usually with 250+ drivers a day.

To provide some additional information on how these funds are being collected and for what purpose:

East Tennessee Region SCCA is hosting our event and making it a MINI-only event (there may be a couple of other cars there but this is considered a private event).
- they reserved and paid for the event site
- they carry the insurance for the autocross
- they bring their timing equipment

In my experience $45.00 for a lot of autocross seat time (likely 6 or more runs each), a MINI-only event, with everything managed for us is a great deal and covers their costs for hosting the event for us.

You drive to Ohio for autocrosses? It's likely that the lot that the East TN people have rented is a huge step up from a high school parking lot. The DC region races on a couple of parking lots at FedEx field.

Actually the event is at a local high school (William Blount High School). In Denver we see more and more of the venues available to us vanish because of redevelopment. At this point I would be thrilled with a big high school parking lot

The important thing to remember for this event is that its a small event, only MINIs, and that we'll get lots of seat time. At our events here in Denver we get 3 runs for our $45. For this event we will get a lot of runs for $45 because of the small size of the event.

Michael still has his "kill cones" hat which he wears pretty often. I will second Marina, the Dragon last year was the first time we did autox. Had a lot of fun and learned a lot. The day was worth the money.
