Buh-bye
If you are not a minor, then move out and be an adult. If not, maybe a little respect for dad is in order.
Chris, you should see if law enforcement in your area has a ride along program. Spend a night in their shoes (and understand where they're coming from) and it might influence your opinion.
If your comment was just out of frustration that THEY get to tell YOU what to do and you don't have much of a say in it, then nevermind.

Just like everyone else, they are just doing their job .... except their job is to protect .... you
Even if its from yourself
PLEASE READ THIS- Yes I know a different prespective than what you're used to but consider it.
Jeremy1026-Jeremy sounds like you're just going to have to go through some rough times with punishment for you're actions, hopefully the next time you get behind the wheel you'll understand the responsibility that is placed upon you as a driver; this time you'll have to pay money, lose your computer and a few other luxuries, but you still have your life, hopefully f you think about what is at stake and what its like to lose something you'll be a better behaved behind the wheel and we won't be reading about geting hurt.
Hope to se you back soon Jeremy.

I have no idea how fast he was driving ... its reckless driving that is the issue ... When I was in HS, they made us watch those gory movies with the dead bodies on the highway. Of course, everyone just laughed ... helll, thats not going to happen to us.
Now, I See the dead bodies, especially the young girl who smacked the toll booth, and want to ..... cry
Such a waste.
[quote=Edge;1277918] My concern was that somehow his parents would associate DCMM or NAM as somehow encouraging wildly dangerous driving habits.[quote]
Boy, it would seem you are really stuck on that idea that somehow posts on this website affect peoples behavior out there in the real world. I only mention it on account of other posts you've made. Somehow, I can't imagine how anything posted here could possibly be that influential out there in the real world, or that anyone including this kids parents could think someone other than the kid himself is responsible for his actions.

It's not that I think this website or any other will truly affect people's behavior... I don't. It's that I believe less-informed people will think that.
It seemingly doesn't take much to point fingers in this country, and the bottom-feeding lawyers will jump on any excuse to sue. For example, there's a reason that the NAM Site Guidelines are very strict about discussing (i.e. glorifying) blatantly illegal driving habits. The site owner is protecting himself, and can you blame him?
I don't know which "other posts" you were referring to, but some of them may have simply been enforcing the NAM guidelines, which is one of the duties of being a moderator.
Besides, Jeremy opened this thread with this:
Well...after my little incident my daddy said I won't be around much more for an undetermined amount of time. So, take care.
(and yes, I realize that I'm not his parent, therefore it is not my decision. We're just "talking" here)

Edge... funny "While I agree in principle, you have to remember what country we're in. I am a cynic when it comes to people's abuse of the legal system."

I don't understand most kids his age any more. My kids are 19 and 20. They would never think of doing anything as stupid as racing around and "running" from the cops. I would hope his parents would stand up to such childish behavior and lay down the rules. If all the punishment he gets is a little computer down time then he got off lucky. Unfortunately most parents these days simply hand the kid a check and tell them they will take care of it.
I just noticed his post numbers and he has only been here since this fall........WOW.

Few questions...
I don't see how the groudee's parents telling him he cannot go on NAM or talk to the DCMM is a bad reflection on the Mini community in any way. His parents are obviously just taking things away from him (& rightfully so) that he cares about. It is no reflection on the Mini community whatsoever sheesh
- does the groundee own the car outright or make the car payments on his own?
- does the groundee pay his own car insurance 100%?
- does the groundee pay any rent to live in his parent's house?

...I would never swing back at my parents (not even at this age [20]), I may not always agree with everything they say or have me doing but I know that in the long run it's for the best. Your parents seem to be caring and want to be in your life; which is a good thing in today’s society with such an increasing orphan rate. Also your parents deserve much more respect than that. And plus if I swung back after being hit by one of my parents……..well, lets not go there but I strongly DO NOT suggest you swinging back at your parents.
I will make certain I add you to the list of those who consider razzing as belittling and I will keep a professional and proper tone from here on in.
That was not what you had said, you made a direct referral to all parents THESE DAYS. That was my point of contention.
Actually, I did - twice. But since you didn't revise the previous statement, I certainly was not going to assume you didn't mean your previous post.
So you're saying, if someone is not a parent that they don't make frivolous lawsuits and try to point fault away from themselves?
I hope you see my point and why I had taken issue with the statement.
If you had said PEOPLE today, I would have agreed.

3. does the groundee pay any rent to live in his parent's house? If the answer to any one of the above questions is no then the groundee is SOL.

2. yes
3. no, but im not allowed to move out either.

This seems to be a common case of NOT using common sense. If someone says "Parents today" common sense would tell you that this doesn't mean EVERY parent out there, that it just means PARENTS on average.
No where in the post was he talking about NON-Parents so why would you assume that he is saying that NON-parents do not make frivolous lawsuits.
I do agree with Edge on this though, because A LOT OF PARENTS(have to be correct here and not just use parents) do file a lot of pointless, useless, and uncalled for lawsuits. I mean come on, if the sign says do not swim with killer whales then you shouldn't sue because your dumb kid got in the tank with the killer whale.

This thread has gotten WAY Off Topic!
What the heck does Jeremy telling us in DCMM that he's had some challenges recently and will be temporarily unable to participate in club activities have to do with law suits and the american legal system?
What thread ever stays ON TOPIC.
That comes back to being told I wasn't allowed to sell my Wii to Jay. (I bought it soley to sell it on ebay, but when it didn't fetch what I was looking for {my reserve price} I kept it.) So its not even like I'm desperatly in love with it or anything.
Dude not to step over your parents or anything, but tell them to loosen the reigns and just sell it to Jay (or me, how much you want).
