Something hit my Bonnet.. Need Help

Was heading down 95 south to IKEA, when some sort of large meatball thing came flying sideways smack into my bonnet, it sounded soft enough at first, and was glad it didn't hit the windsheild.

Later upon inspection, it looks like I got some damage
a small scratch/chip looking thing about 3/4 inch, and kinda wide too. Its located near the windshield washer on the bonnet, looks like whatever it was that hit, went through the clearcoat and into some layers of paint..no dent though.

Is there a local place to fix this? Or is this something that can be done DIY? (ie: MINI paint repair kit)

I wanna make sure the snow and salt later this winter won't start to eat away at the bonnet.. any suggestions?

Thanks

No suggestions, but a similar problem on the passenger side of my car. Looks like I got hit with something at high velocity.

Was the meatball one of those yummy ones from Ikea? (Sorry, had to ask!!!)

That's why I think I was thinking about a Meatball, cause of IKEA.. and boy those are tasty..

Is it worth getting the MINI paint repair thing at the dealer?
Have you done anything with it?
I just want to make sure the damage is safe for the winter, I can repair more in the spring.

Touch-up paint at the dealer is about $18. It comes with your color and clearcoat. You need to make sure the area is completely clean.

Thanks, I sent a note out to my MA seeing if she had other reccomendations, or otherwise if they can ship it to me.. doesn't hurt to ask I suppose :D

I got a road trip to Orlando from DC this Thurs, is there anything I can do to protect it while on the trip, like wax, sealer or something. (or is it ok as is)
